Only thing worse than the dopes running the NRL now is the utter planks on social media and forums who think these are the answers
Why so sensitive.

They would still be the chooks, they would just have a larger fan base to market to.

The clubs mentioned have had so many years to crack sydney and have failed.

Roosters have the top Sydney crowds, and the 2nd best finals crowd so far only 1k short of the Storm in a 1 team town.
What a strange thing to say.

You ignore that these clubs have far reaching supporter bases. This lower fanbase comment is misleading. For instance the Sharks winning last year has increased their overall fanbase significantly. Yes the crowd was poor at the final but i blame poor marketing more than anything else for this outcome.

I don't agree with this at all. Marketing only can do so much when the fan base is lazy and uncommitted. At some point, the fans have to put their hand up and take the blame.

Do you really need marketing to tell you your own team has a knockout final? Marketing helps, but if the customers can't be arsed then that's it.

If a knock out game comes along (and you are available and within a reasonable distance to the game) but still don't attend it shows the fan base is the problem - not the marketing.

2013. 2 v 3. Souths (the Pride of the League, 500,000,000,000 members) v Melbourne Storm, Friday night. Crowd: 21,000.

But yeah Roosters haven't cracked Sydney...

Yeah the storm have a pretty easy trot. They only have to compete with the AFL clubs with over 500K combined members.

If only all NRL clubs had it so easy.

Edit: Not attacking the roosters or the crowd. Just pointing out how utterly stupid it is any time someone suggests being a 1 team town is an advantage when it comes to the storm.

I know that. But when people are suggesting relocating Sydney teams to AFL dominated cities in a bid to magically increase crowds it's a valid comparison.

Honestly, if this week wasnt an indictment on the people running rugby league I do not know what it is.

Laws of business
1 - Make it easy for customers to buy your product
2 - Don't blame your customers for not buying your product.

We are not selling any product in adelaide perth, nor are we selling enough in brisbane or in the south island of nz.

Whilst manly and the sharks remain in sydney there finals should be at their home.

If the NRL had balls it would send
Cronulla to perth, perth sharks has a nice ring to it
Chooks to brisbane
Manly to radelaide
penrith or wests to south island nz.

Make any relocated teams sydney games play out of old home teams stadiums..

Take over the juniors, not much of a bother for easts since they dont run them.

Tigers should never be in this relocation discussion.

2010 Week 1 - Tigers vs Roosters 34k
2010 Week 3 - Dragons vs Tigers 72k

2011 Week 1 - Tigers vs Dragons 45k
2011 Week 2 - Tigers vs Warriors 31k

Oh baby when we're on fire we can pull a crowd

I personally wouldnt relocate the tigers.

But they always seem to be in the discussion.

What a strange thing to say.
The poor crowds the chooks get that no other club in sydney would get if they were running 1,2 or 3.

RD 10 v Eels - Sunday afternoon 10,467. Even the clubs that got shitter crowds on the weekend panthers/sharks/sea eagles at home on a sunday afternoon against the eels would get a far bigger crowd, sharks and sea eagles would get far less travelling support as well.

RD 20 v Newcastle - Friday Night 7,121. The less said the better.

RD 21 v Cows - Saturday night 9,476. cows were running 4th or 5th at the time as well. again abysmal.

Rd 24 v Tigers - sat night 9,585 again abysmal

4 crowds which were really really undefendable by anyones standards.

Keep in mind your club is selling off 2 home games a yr 1 - adelaide 1 to CC.
You also had the anzac game as a home game which really is a neutral match attended by 25-30k dragons fans a yr.

Leaving you with 9 games.. 4 of which were a joke... none on Thursday night. There are some more shithouse crowds but being less woeful I left them out.

The above is a comedy for the team running second. Oddly enough, I know a lot of easts fans and whenever they go to the game they comment on going to a match with the other three blokes and their dog, so its accepted by them that they crowds are a joke, why on here do easts fans try and pretend otherwise.

Also with easts (put manly in this category too) you cant really ever see them growing into anything bigger in their current situation.

Parramatta finished 4th
Drew 10,074 vs Canberra
9,489 v Warriors
6,826 v Titans

Cronulla are the reigning premiers and were in the top 4 most of the year...
8,557 v Cowboys
7,912 v Storm

hahahahaha

I love my team !!
I weally , weally do

ahhh.. but only if they're within 5ks of me ... I couldn't give a f**k if they go further away then that
hahahahaha
typical Sydney attitude mate !!

get a home ground that isn't a glorified cow paddock & you might have an argument

You'd love a home ground you didn't pay rent on.And money coming in that doesn't rely on poker machines like ............hmmmm.
Judging by the attitude of Raider's fans with their attendances, their attitude in attending is hardly worth of an Oscar ,more like a limp biscuit.
The fumblers get $2m pa from the ACT Govt for 10 years for about 4 games, and the Raiders get..........LOL/.

Finals week 1 crowds for games played in Sydney featuring one out of town team since the inception of the NRL. Any Knights games (as the away team) are also included.

Parra V Knights (1999 - Parra Stadium) - 15,653
Sharks V Broncos (1999 - Shark Park) - 13,713
Sharks V Broncos (2001 - Shark Park) - 15,508
Parra V Warriors (2001 - Parra Stadium) - 17,336
Bulldogs V Warriors (2003 - Sydney Showground) - 18,312
Roosters V Knights (2003 - SFS) - 23,853
Penrith V Broncos (2003 - Penrith) - 18,534)
Bulldogs V Cowboys (2004 - ANZ) - 18,371
Roosters V Raiders (2004 - SFS) - 18,375
Tigers V Cowboys (2005 - ANZ) - 26,463
Bulldogs V Raiders (2006 - ANZ) - 14,623
Roosters V Broncos (2008 - SFS) - 18,343
Sharks V Raiders (2008 - Shark Park) - 18,252
Bulldogs V Knights (2009 - ANZ) - 21,369
Penrith V Raiders (2010 - Penrith) - 16,668
Manly V Cowboys (2011 - SFS) - 13,972
souths V Storm (2013 - ANZ) - 21,609
Sharks V Cowboys (2013 - SFS) - 32,747 (Double header with roosters/Manly)
Bulldogs V Knights (2013 - ANZ) - 23,086
Roosters V Storm (2015 - SFS) - 20,521
Roosters V Broncos (2017 - SFS) - 21,212
Sharks V Cowboys (2017 - SFS) - 16,115

Given the above, how can the roosters crowd this past weekend get anything other than a pass mark? It is literally the best finals week 1 crowd for a game in Sydney involving Brisbane since the start of the NRL and 6th best involving a non Sydney team overall (of 21) if you exclude the double header.

3 of the top 5 also involve the Knights. So only 2 finals week 1 crowds played in Sydney involving a non NSW team have been better, one was better by a whole 397 despite having the best supported team in the universe play and the other was the fantastic Wests 2005 crowd.

Its pathetic that there are areas screamin for RL that cant get a single game, yet this is the crap dished up by Sydney fans...

Its just what happens when a market is so saturated. Fans become lazy and entitled

Is anyone surprised anymore that the the only decent crowds are outside of the "heartland"?

NRL badly overestimated week 1 crowds. They should be held at real home grounds until week 3.

F*ckin brilliant idea...

The crowds will be even smaller, but at least the crappy suburban grounds will look ok with 10k

Aim low and youre never disappointed...

off the back of very , very dodgy regional ratings
suddenly they have as many as we do , which is impossible seeing as we have double the regional population they do

very dodgy

Yeah it's quite interesting. Does anyone know what constitutes a view and who comes up with the official tally? NRL claims themselves to be a superior TV sport as they have been in the past but this week the stats seem a tad odd.

I'm pretty firmly against relocating or removing Sydney teams. Sydney has a rapidly growing population so it seems silly to remove teams now. Also as many others have stated that just leads to fans leaving the game.

If we were to start over from scratch I can see the argument that we might not have this many Sydney teams but we can't remove them now.

The problem with Sydney crowds is not because there are too many teams and removing teams won't help with crowds (the opposite would happen IMO).

So from that perspective I agree.
