The moment there's no footy in Sydney, the journos get bored and write that the other codes are getting a free kick. Can't win.

Full house at AAMI Park and 30-35k at Allianz next weekend would be a good result IMO, regardless of what happens with the AFL's crowds.

Code in Crisis
Back of envelope figures NRL is down about 6% since 2011 and 2% since last year, AFL down 3% for same period but were down 9% last year and have had a very good year year

ABC praises NRL crowd and points out it was higher then AFL counterpart in Sydney this weekend. Article acknowledges though a Roosters vs Eels contest would have been a promoter's dream compared to the Roosters playing Cowboys. Roosters also don't have as big a fan base compared to some of the other Sydney teams so the crowd numbers could possibly dip next weekend.

Nearly 6000 there today to witness Jamberoo win their first group 7 comp since 1974. Nothing wrong with rugby league, just the NRL.

Actually i provea that the Sydney market us so oversaturated with RL that fans obly care about the biggest games...

Bring some scarcity to Sydney and people might start carin again.

Depends what you mean. If you mean removing teams than I think that would cause huge problems and would be a massive step backwards. If you mean looking into the length of the season I agree. I'm not convinced the regular season needs to be 26 rounds. As we expand and bring in more teams hopefully we move to a standalone origin period and reduce the regular season.

I also don't think it's the over abundance of matches, it's he lack of big hyped matches. We need to make sure we maximise how many local derbies there are in Sydney and play the big ones in good timeslots. Really promote them as events like the a league do with their big matches like Sydney FC vs wanderers.

what F'ing tradition ?
to mainly sit at home & watch games on TV ?

You just dont get it do u? Better to have this support and relevance than lose it! Granted it is up to the NRL to harness the "dormant" support better but u dont eliminate it.

nah
its you who doesn't get it
use it or lose it
we;ve had 100 plus years of this attitude by Sydneysiders toward our game , they're never going to get it
we need to look elsewhere for future support for the game , If Sydneysiders want to tag along they're welcome

if not ....eh .. who'll miss em

Great eels crowd the moment eels are continually winning should easily surpass majority of nrl teams. Owned the giants showing league heartland in full force and the crisis nonsense and constant negativity should be silenced.

You could sub in the Bulldogs, Rabbitohs, Tigers and even Dragons into that sentence for the same result.

And the remaining Sydney clubs have their own decent support outside of Sydney. For instance Manly, Easts and Cronulla have significant out of Sydney support due to their recent grand final success and their continuing story.
