Be interesting to see which team gets most cheers on GF day.

I'm assuming cowboys will get majority of support, Aussies love an underdog.

How about those airfares for a return flight from North Queensland to Sydney though? What a laugh, I'd be driving down lol

I agree about the airfares from NQL being a rort but the trouble is you looking at almost 3 days to drive down from Townsville to Sydney.

You can do the drive in 2 massive days but it is pretty dangerous and taxing on the body.

Yes that would be a huge road trip without much of a break and the most of the Pacific Hwy between Ballina and Macksville is a construction zone at the moment which would add delays to the trip even more.

I can see why it was chosen. However i think it would have been sold out in Sydney given plenty of expats and the Bennet factor plus Aussies from NSW would have attended. I for one would have gladly made the effort from Newcastle.

Why the f**k would Sydney suddenly care about Wayne Bennett coaching England?

The game may have sold out, but you seem to be ignorant to the fact that the RLIF sold the game to the Victorian government. And it'll still sell out.

Last time England(Britain) played Australia in Sydney, 24'000 people turned up. This was back in 2006.

2014 - NZ - 25,429 at the SFS
2010 - PNG - 11,308 at Parramatta
2008 - Fiji - 15,855 at the SFS for a World Cup semi final.

There were a couple of better crowds before that, one was the World Cup opener and the other was the mid season test at the SCG, and I remember that game there was a massive plea for fans to attend because the game wasn't selling and it was celebrating 100 years of Rugby League in Australia.

So your thinking of 'an England vs Australia game with a Wayne Bennett factor would sell out in Sydney' is total bullshit. You have no idea what you're talking about. Again, you're an idiot.

Edit: By the way, the 'good' crowds Sydney got in 2008, had the Wayne Bennett factor. If you're happy with 34000 people turning up, good. We'll get that in Melbourne plus $500k.

Still think that England v Kangaroos would have sold out. It would have been better for the code in Sydney. They have taken the easy option and it does make sense though its in Sydney where the code needs a shot in the arm. And you are dropkick nuffy last week! Your rudeness shows your poor regard for decent conversations and ideas about the game. Priorities of whats good for the is what im about but u wallow in your disparaging remarks as if a difference doesnt count. Poor attitude.

So at what point do you have another serious crack at internationals in Sydney? Never?

Or do we keep giving Sydney dud games, then say "see told you so" when the self-fulfilling prophecy continues?

Everyone knows Australia v Lebanon and England v Lebanon are going to be tough draws. There's no way these fixtures fill Lang Park. But the anti-Sydney crowd will use it to attack Sydney anyway.

That said, this time round the blame lies with the State Government.

Still think the tournament organisers didnt think this one over well enough. However the state govt dropped the ball on this opportunity if thats the reason.

As you say, when the state government pays up to host the games. That's when Sydney hosts games.

The RLIF in particular can't afford to take gambles in cash. They need it and they're being smart about the hosting of matches in this year's and the last world cup.

It depends on what bids are put forward and what the options are. If the Vic government will pony up half a million and we can still have a sold out AAMI that's better than nothing from the NSW government and an unknown in terms of crowd.

I don't think they've got the balance totally right this year but I can see why they went the direction they did.

Hopefully by the next World Cup the NSW government is willing to make a bid and the game in Sydney is stronger (buoyed by the new stadiums.

Sydney have demonstrated repeatedly they don't give a shit about international RL, so Sydney can f**k off, pretty simple.

Apparently the cowboys are putting on a bunch of chartered flights which will be significantly cheaper than the commercial airlines
