Yes that would be a huge road trip without much of a break and the most of the Pacific Hwy between Ballina and Macksville is a construction zone at the moment which would add delays to the trip even more.

2008 - Fiji - 15,855 at the SFS for a World Cup semi final.

There were a couple of better crowds before that, one was the World Cup opener and the other was the mid season test at the SCG, and I remember that game there was a massive plea for fans to attend because the game wasn't selling and it was celebrating 100 years of Rugby League in Australia.

As you say, when the state government pays up to host the games. That's when Sydney hosts games.

The RLIF in particular can't afford to take gambles in cash. They need it and they're being smart about the hosting of matches in this year's and the last world cup.

It depends on what bids are put forward and what the options are. If the Vic government will pony up half a million and we can still have a sold out AAMI that's better than nothing from the NSW government and an unknown in terms of crowd.

I don't think they've got the balance totally right this year but I can see why they went the direction they did.

Hopefully by the next World Cup the NSW government is willing to make a bid and the game in Sydney is stronger (buoyed by the new stadiums.
