I don't believe the NRL doesn't care about crowds - I think that's a stretch to make.

But I think it's plainly evident they don't do enough. Energies & finances focussed too much on things that don't necessarily drive revenue, and very little put into marketing.
Do clubs care? it's primarily their responsibility to promote their games to grow their crowds to grow their revenue. This is what clubs claim they need the extra funding for, I have my doubts they will do anything different to grow their crowds and in 5 years will still be blaming the NRL.

Depends on the club...

Souths, etc get paid x amount at ANZ regardless of how many people show up so I guess the incentive isnt really there to do more.

Manly are losing money unless 14k show up at Brookie so Im pretty sure Penn cares.

Raiders seem to be making an effort with things like the horn and the clap thing.

But 1 thing is for certain, the NRL's attitude towards crowd figures is apathetic at the very best....and that is not good.

It is really the clubs fault not the NRLs. You could increase crowds for all of the one team town clubs by throwing money at advertising the games but the Sydney clubs would demand to know what is in that for them and put a stop to it.

Did the clubs wish for Monday and Thursday night footy ?
6pm Friday kickoffs ?

Or was that the NRL, selling its arse for TV $ ??

The weather was bad in Brisbane yesterday and that game was a foregone conclusion. Can't blame them for drawing a low crowd.
LOL.

Sydney gets smashed for crowds on the reg and is always told to harden up when rain is an excuse. Suddenly Brisbane gets some rain* and it's totally valid.

* rain hasn't stopped them turning up at Suncorp in greater numbers all the way back to 2009.

Greenburg pretty much admitted that they had given up on crowds when he talked about the latest tv deal and the Friday 6pm game.
This sort of shit is how Trump gets elected. "Greenberg pretty much admitted"

Find a quote that actually backs this position or try not saying bullshit.

And it's spelled Greenberg.

This is all well and good but the clubs aren't just complaining about these slots (MNF is gone btw, not sure why it's relevant to the discussion now). Across the 16 clubs, pretty much every timeslot is receiving complaints. Sundays don't suit Club A, Fridays are ideal for Club B, Saturday nights are the only time Club C can draw a crowd and so on.

And for what it's worth the Friday 6pm slot actually isn't going as badly as most predicted. For crowds at least I wouldn't be surprised if it outdraws MNF from years past.

Queenslanders just love to put shit on us NSW people as often as possible. If it was in Sydney they would be smashing the Sydney crowds. They are perfect as far as they are concerned.

Im looking foward to next season when the NRL control the draw and hopefully the majority of clubs can get what they want as much as possible to help crowd numbers.

The fact remains though that the NRL sold its arse when giving up the right to control the draw.

TBoon wants to blame the clubs....I am putting it squarely on the NRL.

And MNF is relevant to this discussion. Some teams had 4 or 5 TNF and MNF home games last year and bled $ badly....if you think people dont get out of the habit of going to the footy, you are dead wrong.

The clubs are the NRL. They fired Smith appointed Greenberg and allow Grant to be chief for the time being. They would have said all we care about is maximising TV money everything is for sale.

Weather was fine in Newcastle today and set to be even clearer tomorrow. With it being the brain cancer awareness round and coming off the back of a win we should get 16k minimum. Hoping for 18-20 though.
