Memberships in RL were always different, you became a member of the leagues club.

yep
a different model
id like to see the membership numbers of all of the associated leagues clubs
it'd be quite a tally ..
of course its only something like $2 to join a leagues club per year
but the amount you'd spend in there over a year would be in the hundreds of $$ minimum & the profits off this are partly used to fund the NRL club

so like we said
a different model

The AFL memberships seem to be a reflection of their crowd attendance. Not so much with NRL, especially if you include all the leagues club (and affiliated leagues club) memberships.

You do realise per round is only 1/2 of clubs at home right Dave?

There actual avg attendance for all clubs is over 600k so about 2/3rds of membership level.

Nrl is around 225k club avg home attendance over all clubs on around 230k members.

Shows there is still a lot of people attending nrl games to convert to members.

(Remembering them home club avg's are skewed by away fans attending Some games)

ah yeah i know that ....
its 580K attendees over a fortnight & they have 900K members
for us its 245K attending a fortnight & we have 300K members
so we probably have a higher % of our members attending games then the AFL ,

making T Loons observation even more ridiculous

they have triple the members
but only double the crowds

if it was a reflection , they'd have triple the crowds

Good idea, we should copy a lot of things from AFL, NFL and also college football. We don't have a solid brains trust (I think about 2 RL players have been to college). Why reinvent the wheel?, just study what the brains trust in the US have done and adopt where possible.

Memberships in RL were always different but Im sure you are wrong. Leagues Clubs are just licensed clubs, you can walk in the front door with $10 and become a member. In the "good old days" at most RL clubs (seperate to Leagues clubs) you had to be nominated to be a member of the RLFC. I had to be nominated by 2 members to be a member of Balmain DRLFC and then you paid you $30-40 bucks and were a member, More critically, as a member after being nominated, paying your fees and being financial for 2 years THEN you got the chance to vote on the future direction of the club like I did to call the the Balmain Tigers the Sydney Tigers in 94 (?) and the Wests Tigers in 99. Back in those days you also had the option to buy a season ticket which is what is called a membership these days but previously in league a member was a part owner in the club.
