This shark baiting is too easy, no wonder they are an endangered species lol

Lets face facts, the reality is our sport will never be massively popular, it is run by the clubs on both sides of the world who are self serving, has a century of being blighted by weak myopic leadership and lacks any vision for how and where it should grow. It is stagnant at best and we will do well to remain as big as we are in the face of other codes better expansion strategies.

Shame as it is an incredible sport on the field, it's just a terrible run sport off it.

You probably wrote a lot of the material for Laugh In.The sad part is you believe the crap you present .Indoctrinated by whiner's anonymous.

Yep we're endangered LOL, the residentials are coming on nicely, a new Centre of Excellence being proposed.Membership continues day by day to climb towards 15,000.This with little cover and not much more seating, short term of course.A well prepared and maintained own home ground, yup dire straits.Talk about desperation in a post.

Also has a century of being shafted by union lobbying Govts.Of course that doesn't count.Vichy/Sport Accord,SASCOR to name a few.

Judging by the NRL crowds Perth has come up with, any self respecting well run sport would say no way Jose.Plus the fact the code has enough whiners, without being swamped by a tsunami of them.Force have shown it to be so,A league hardly setting the world on fire there.

Used to be very pro Perth, the continual bitching ,has made me feel like they are should be treated like feral goats.

The fact you see your club as somehow successful and a future giant of the game pretty much confirms everything I just said. Gf winners and can't break 15k members yet somehow you believe this is an amazing success, yep sounds exactly like mediocre bar setting that rugby league is great at. In many ways the sharks are a perfect mirror of the game.

I see a club that has a $450m plus development, owning its own ground, winning a premiership, record growth in members near 15,000 just more than 40% of the Broncos' membership in a city of near 2m), running 3rd in the NRL in 2017,with plans for a big Centre of Excellence, improved stadium,a football club that relies little on poker machine monies, an astute and smart CEO,future income from retail development, strong juniors, then I see at the other extreme a sign that says VACANCY in Perth where the tumbleweed whistles by, no team, no membership, no premiership ladder, but plenty of noisy whining that makes the Boeing jet engine factory proud.

There isn't too many teams in sydney, there are just too many poorly run teams in sydney.

Kudos to the sharks for finding away to make themselves financially viable, let's hope others follow their lead

. . . and of course no supporter of satellite teams, Sydney being Middle Earth, want to see Sydney teams made stronger by survival of the fittest. Can't have more than one yardstick team at a time in the shithole

You forgot to talk about the past 4 years of scandals that the sharks have been involved in. A chairman that got the sack under lyall Gorman. He does seem like a good operator but let's be honest. He jumped on the sharks when all the hard work had been done with regards to the peptide debacle and development approvals. Yes the future seems bright for the sharks but the previous 50 yrs was horrible. It seems you can't handle the truth and want to act like children. Any person that doesn't want a Perth team needs to wake up. People are going to disagree with on a lot of things but to not want a Perth team because of someone's opinions is childish.

I don't have kids old enough to play rugby league or touch or tag yet but why can't the nrl or any other state or affiliate including touch and tag implement a simple numbered form. Junior kids could fill it out with favorite team, favorite player etc and in return receive a club membership/deals with seats beside other local club friends/players to create a friendly atmosphere at nrl games. The cost can be absorbed into the fees they pay. There needs to be better thinking around how to improve crowds and memberships

I have brought those(Sharks') debacles up on many threads, never denied them.Like WW2 it's history, just like the Storm's salary cap scandals and the goodies the players received and retained out side the cap.

He didn't get the sack under Gorman,he resigned(fell on his sword) as he had no other choice(based on the court findings). The former Chairman also lent the club $1.5m to assist them in the early days.Yeah I'm sure Gorman, was trailing him around the bars of Sydney, looking for the sniffers.

The previous 50 years were not horrible, yes there were some bad ones ,just like the Eels,Warriors,Titans ,Knights,Tigers to name a few had their ups and downs. The ET ,Rogers, early years with Bishop etc were in fact great years, you may not know about them.

Your telling me I can't handle the truth LOL.I respond to continual inane comments from the perennial whiner of the west.He chooses to have a shot specifically at the Sharks, I respond in kind.

I have never stated categorically I don't want a Perth team(open your peepers mate),I have merely responded to the effect of , when one carries on like a d*ckhead bagging my club and continually whines, then you won't get my current support.Simples.
In fact on more than a couple of occasions i have stated ,I want a Perth side and a Banana 2 side. Can't be any more explicit than that.

I do like that idea.

I know the NRL is doing a lot of education / reading stuff (award winning, I believe).

Taking that program in to ALL schools, as well as linking it to sport with a touch/tag RL program (school's are crying out for sports programs and involvement from sports [this is where the AFL does kick a goal...it might be shit, but they just send people out as missionaries to do this work]). The kids have to sign up and they tick the boxes and voila.

And it's a myth school kids in one area all go for one team. My kids go to school in Bulldogs territory. There are Tigers, Roosters, Rabbits, Bulldogs, Dragons, Sea Eagles, Eels, Panthers fans. Even a Storm fan. It wouldn't be hard for the NRL to get the forms back and have either generic NRL sample bags (footy cards and magnets are always a winner, as is the odd freebie ticket and voucher for pie n coke) or specific team bags that get given to each kid depending on who they ticked on the sign up form.

So NRL...you looking for someone to run it...PM me.

This from someone who's Club was found to be systematically cheating the salary cap for several years and had two Premierships wiped from the records!!! Lol! Why don't you lead with your chin you moron.

We don't "need" a Perth team. Strategically for a better Television deal yeah could be a goer down the track but not as an extra team but when a Sydney team goes belly up. But I stress we don't "need" a Perth team as our Competition already generates premium TV deals and NRL games dominates as highest rating sporting games on TV.

There are probably around 50 players in First Grade line ups who are not up to First Grade standard. So bringing in another 1 or 2 teams on top of that would be absolute stupidity and dilute the successful product we currently have. Just look at the disaster of the Super Rugby competition if you need proof of over expansion for expansion sake.

Maybe when the grass roots of the game are booming again is when we look to expansion.

But it is going the opposite way at the moment.

It doesn't make any commonsense at all to expand when the grass roots of the game is going backwards.

In fact it is moronic to think of expansion.

Those calling for expansion are self interested morons.

Why don't the sharks buy the info off ticketek of all the emails and mobile phone numbers of people who bought GF tickets last year ??

I'm sure it's in the t and c that ticketek can onsell your data

You need to enter all that data on the my ticketek website and you need a mobile to receive the SMS ticket

Then personally call everyone and pitch membership of $50.. get gallen to call them ffs

If the GWS Giants can get more members than the nrl premiers in Sydney

We aren't doing it right

You are right, we aren't doing something right. For GWS though to claim 20,000 members is surely a joke? The last game I watched they barely drew 10,000 against a side that brings plenty of travelling supporters.

In fact they average just 11,000 a game this season, how can a club have 20,000 members yet only get 11,000 to their home games? Cronullas average is over 2,000 a game higher with an average of 13,300 and some pretty shit time slots, tomorrows game will probably drag the average down. So clearly we need to do more to get those long distance or couch potato supporters on board with a basic, cheap membership to boost numbers like everyone else. Wonder if we have the AFLs favourite pet membership?

Another major anomaly I just noticed, how do South Sydney have 30,000 members yet just 12,000 turn up every week to their home games?

They must have the same membership counter as souffs.
