The world has changed so much since then.
Now we have iPhones and Netflix, then New Zealand could play Rugby League.

Nah. NZ were hopeless all year until the final. England were even worse.

NZ had a worse side on paper than they did this year in 2008.

Its the same every international comp. England trail off in the last quarter because they cannot physically compete. NRL absolutely produces a higher intensity game, but does that make up for the sheer number of greater games in the UK and a ridiculously short off season?

Said it before, unless the superleague season is shortened, or all players start playing in the NRL, England will aways struggle to compete for the full 80 because a large majority of their players are going into their ~40th game of the season.

There's a reason NRL players association are always chirping about burn out. Can't see RFL removing games any time soon....

I have literally being saying this for decades … and yet the last RFL restructure in 2014 INCREASED the number of games in the UK season … ludicrous!!

Rule 1 that the video ref broke. When going up to the video ref with a no try, no matter the reason, you have to confirm everything. The ref did not do that.

Agreed. Hard to see, aside from an improbable vast investment from a generous source, how it's going to change. Large majority of the clubs need the games for income. A shock victory for England and immediate renegotiation of tv deal desperately needed!

Off to the game and hope we get a miracle result but sadly it’s long shot .

Australia has better players better depth because they have far more athletes playing rugby league than us poms do .

Been here 5 years and nothing will change until soccer takes away some of the talent .

We will be a long shot for a very long time , must be hard been Mal Meniga !!

None the less the 1000+ English fans will still out sing the Aussies even if we lose by 50

I live in Victoria and 95% of players are islanders (and 1 Pom - my 15 old son ),the game is growing but yes sadly other codes are taking juniors that’s why I wish Australia would do more to grow the international game and not make state of origin the main focus .
Origin is fantastic but takes away too much focus from other areas and think every 2 years is a better option

Actually think weekend Origin games with international games played on the weekend days when origin is not played(eg. Sunday origin with Friday & Saturday for internationals ) may be a good option through the season. Ofcourse internationals after the NRL gf must occur.
