2018 Crowd Watch

Well given last year was the first season of thurs and fri 6pm and we achieved our worse crowd avg in over a decade I’d say, on the evidence we have so far, being killed. Maybe this year will reverse that trend but thurs and majority of fri games so far would suggest not.
Have you actually analysed the stats to prove the correlation between the Thu night/Fri 6pm and lower overall crowds?

While I don't have stats to back it, IMO the drop is far more likely attributable to other factors like reduced crowds for key marquee matches (Easter, ANZAC day) and the overall poor performance of traditionally high-drawing clubs like South Sydney and Canterbury last season.

Well I have and while I lost the exact figures both Thursday and Friday 6pm games in Sydney averaged 10k while Saturday night and Sunday games in Sydney averaged 14-16k. To be fair Thursday crowds are similar to the old Monday night crowds but we never had the big games on Monday night. I went to Eels v Dogs in 2016 and there was 20k there. Last year Eels v Dogs was on a Thursday and got 14k. There is an obvious correlation there and it can't just be blamed on form as the Eels did a lot better last year compared to the previous 7.

Similarly crowds that should have been a lot better in Brisbane were down when played on a Thursday, which was the same when played on a Monday but I think Brisbane got 1 Monday night game every 5 years.

The other major reason was increasing prices (which I believed have been dropped this year?) which is debatable but when they struggle to sell out Origin at Suncorp they had definitely gone too far.

Are there really people who go to the effort of having Fox Sports that happily watch RL on 9 with an ad break every try and standard definition?

Foxtel doesn't come with sport though. I had it with the kids channel package (Since got Fetch). I stream sport as it is easier for me I can sit in another room. Fox need to realise Ch9 aren't a competitior more fans watching footy the better really

Of course CH9 are a competitor to Fox. Fox aren't in it for the good of the game. If someone chooses to watch CH9 over buying a Fox subscription or contributing to Fox's ratings that is a bad thing for them. Provided they make money they could not give a f**k about RL.

For a start the name should be Fox Rugby league! They can use names like Big League etc in their shows however the channel name needs to be FOX RUGBY-LEAGUE .

Does anyone watch FTA if they have a choice? I got my Foxtel cancelled I was sick of the same movies over and over. I stream off streaming services. Have NFL pass etc though. Fox should worry about getting customers to their dying platform instead

I do when the footy is on at reasonable times. But things like the Footy show(Thursday night) and 100 percent Footy are on too late during a school week.

If you take a look at 2010, which was one of our best crowd years, interestingly some of the big attendance avg's were outside the top 8 in Sths, Eels and Bulldogs (and Broncos 35k) all drawing 17k plus avg's despite not making the finals. It seems since that purple growth period around that time that fans have dropped away increasingly from teams that don't make the 8?

I agree - we should not just allow the word Rugby to be dropped from our sport's name.

By doing this people whom may not be aware of the other "rugby"code become aware of this. It's important for universal recognition. I guarantee if the new person /viewer was to look at both rugby codes on tv that rugby league would be the preferred option.

@Stallion do you make it your mission to talk about completely off-topic shit in every thread? FMD

No. The stuff I mention is relevant and should not be discounted. Plenty of my comments are thread related. Remembering some things are inextricably associated with other things.

I really hope they have some bloke on BigFooty named gelding or thoroughbred who advocates for Fox Footy to be renamed Fox Aussie Rules, our code can't be the only one blessed with this kind of modern day Gus Gould.

Pretty keen on this sold out Tamworth game.

You mean FOX TRAINING RUN!? And Tamworth maybe sold out. Not sure if it's a wise thing for the Tigers as I think they have missed out on 10000 extra paying fans in Sydney
