Because no matter how much you like to pretend otherwise we're directly competing with them and no amount of hand waving will change that.

Most storm fans also follow an AFL team as you would expect when the AFL is by far the biggest game in town.

If the swans or giants schedule a game on a Wednesday night against SOO do you truly believe there would be no impact on their crowd numbers?

Also ignore the data all you like but you can literally check and see what impact the AFL match had. This isn't the first time the storm has played a finals game. Go back and compare the numbers.

So all storm supporters follow those two afl teams that played?
Or
AFL is more popular no matter who plays?

Doesn’t that just mean the Storm have shit crowds?

Of course the AFL is always more popular and yes some storm fans will choose the AFL over the NRL.

No. If the swans played on SOO night and lost a few thousand fans would that mean their crowds are shit? Of course not.

For the record that was the lowest storm finals crowd in 5 years. For week 3 matches we essentially average around 27-28K. What do you predict the storm will get against a Richmond finals match?

Bad luck to whoever is locked out. They should become full ticketed members if they don't want to miss out in future. This is a premium event and not everyone can attend premium events.

Even if they were to become full ticketed members there aren’t enough seats to satisfy demand.

It's our home game and the SFS is deemed an appropriate venue by the NRL for week 3 finals. If they want to remove SFS (SCG from next year) as an appropriate week 3 venue then so be it but until then any roosters home prelim should be at Moore park. That is the right we earnt on saturday night.

It is not your home game. The rules make it clear that the NRL run the finals, they receive the revenue from the tickets & they ultimately decide where a game will be played.

The SCG should be excluded for 2019 with ANZ stadium still available.

Hell with the smashing the liberal govt got on the weekend we may never have to use the SCG.

This isn't some hypothetical. It's not like this is the first time the storm have held a finals match. We make the finals every bloody year. I don't have all of our final crowds off the top of my head but I'm pretty confident at least in recent years that we draw more than 17K. So it really doesn't matter what you think.

Storm crowds have never been great for Finals week 1. 14k v Knights in 2011, 19k v Souths 2012, 19k v Knights 2013 (week 2), 19k v Bulldogs 2014, 21k v Cowboys 2016, 22k v Eels 2017. So they had been slowly building until this year.

I never claimed our crowds were amazing and as I said the 17K we got this year was disappointing (as were the crowds you listed).

But as you can see our finals
crowds have been getting steadily bigger along with our general crowd and membership numbers.

What changed this year to see a sudden drop of about 5K on last year?

So what are everyone's expectations for this week. Hoping for 25K and 50K respectively.

I think I missed that. When did we get figures on exactly how many sharks fans were at the final? Also it's pretty irrelevant anyway. It doesn't matter how many there were if that's the only time they'll actually come out to a match.

Of course it matters, and I'll explain next, and the approx G/F figure was given on more a couple of occasions by commentators,.BTW I was there ,and it was a sea of blue, black and white.

Well it does matter,.because it not only indicates a base of 15-16,000 stuck on supporters already there, but another 50,000 casual out of the woodwork support.Support that you could well lose should the team be relocated or disbanded.
Thirty thousand rolled up at the SFS when they beast the Cowboys to get to the G/F.there was a hatful of Cow's fans there then.

It also further indicates with improved home ground infrastructure, the opportunities to increase membership base is there in decent numbers.

I understand the rules.

As I said earlier, the SFS is deemed suitable by the NRL to host week 3 games thus that is our preference to host it there. If they remove SFS as a suitable venue then fine but until then all roosters home prelims should be at Moore Park.

I went out to the game yesterday with my dad who is more of a union man although he does enjoy league. He said something that Rugby League has over Union anyday is the game day experience. The atmosphere, pre and half time entertainment, activities for families and kids is something that is unexistant in Union. We were at the Wallaby test the night before and it did not compare at all. Even though the game was a smashing we both enjoyed ourselves.

Well to be honest I was just pointing out to Perthred how a Syd final got way more than a storm final.
Storm
Premiership winners
Been in it for over 20 years
Then you decided to start quoting me.

He bagged the Sydney crowds but failed to point out the obvious.

Too bad of AFL gets more fans
It’s never goi g to change so why complain.
In fact I doubt the storm will get many once they finish up with this golden era.

I have mates who go for storm and Richmond - but they've been Richmond fans longer than they have storm. Going head to head obviously they will choose Richmond. I dare say I'm not the only storm fan with mates such as these.

However if Storm were playing and Richmond weren't they sure as hell will come along to every game possible.

Simple as that and the NRL should know to take advantage of that.

I'm a foot in both camps on this one. On one hand the NRL shouldn't cower away and worry about what the AFL is doing - but at the same time if they can schedule the match friendly enough to not clash with a big AFL game maybe they should consider that too

I agree in the sense that the NRL shouldn't cower in AFL's presence, but there's common sense regarding games in Melbourne. They shouldn't go out of their way to ensure there isn't a clash, but the opportunity was presenting itself this time round to ensure Melbourne's eye was on AAMI park. FWIW, still think the game will get 25k+

Once every 50 years you can expect to see more than 20k Cronulla fans in one location lol.

Have they heard of the cronulla sharks?

65k sharks fans at the GF? lol hyperbole. So there was only 18k neutrals and Storm fans? There was that many Storm fans at the 2017 GF I attended. I know people dont like the Sharks but pretty sure there would be quite a few thousand neutrals at every GF.

Of course Mr Auditor
The day your ,mob can get 15,000 rusted oners and out of the woodworkers plus casuals, then I'd be loud and proud. In the meantime bagging Shark's fans of any description is rather ironic. In fact ,fair to say you'd be lucky to get 15,000 all up.It might pay to be a tad humble.,
About 5-10,000 Storm max followers at the G.F and that allows for 8,000 neutrals give or take.I was there ,you were in a chair. Or else the Sharks sold 10 of thousands in quantity of Shark's gear for neutrals.

I've been a neutral at RL grand finals and never once purchased merchandise, except at a Challenge Cup final in England.
Have a chat to the commentators TV and radio ,the print media. They made the comments about the crowd support .

30.000 plus at the prior game at the SFS when the Cows brought a couple of hundred.
But of course you're de man.
