Before this round this year: 2,749,886.

Final totals
Last year 2017: 2,865,152
Year before 2016: 2,921,617

With just Broncos-Manly to play we're now at 2,884,230, which is 19,078 more than last season.

We need more than 37,387 from this game to crack 2016.

this year had the comm games leading to a few low Titans crowds that had to be played away
Yep - more country games than in a long time would have dragged the average down a bit more than usual.

Broncos are 10 points away from saving the finals crowds next week (actually to be fair the roosters and storm should both get decent crowds).

Today's crowd is absolutely fantastic. What a great spectacle it is seeing a full Suncorp.

With media build up, Hunt factor etc, could be 51k plus, corporate packages will hold it back a bit because of Sunday.
NRL media always save their biggest negative articles for finals

pigs always announce they are investigating some bullshit so they can get some headlines too

That's fair enough and true. On the other hand, an almost perfect winter of weather in Sydney should have easily overcome the few smaller crowds at the country games. Alas, it really wasn't to be and we have been over the reasons why ad nauseum.
Remember all the weather excuses for Sydney last year? Most were quite justified as well, but one thing is for sure. We cannot use the weather as an excuse in Sydney this season.

Hmmm. I would think the multitude of games with crowds 6-9k in the Sydney area has more to do with it than the Titans, who averaged 12,824- more than Parra, Canterbury, Cronulla and Manly

Winners
Best winter weather in years, double headers boosting crowds, retiring superstars. Decent fanbase clubs going well ie Storm, dragons, Souths, broncos, warriors top 8, top 8 positions not decided until last round, nrl having scheduling control (allegedly), games in Perth and Adelaide drawing big crowds.

Losers
More low drawing regional games, shthouse Thursday and Friday slots, some big fanbase clubs doing sht ie Parra, Bulldogs, Tigers.

On the plus side we managed to beat last years embarrassing crowd avg,
on the downside, not by much and we won’t have the star player retirement games next year but should have the WSS boost if eels can get their sht together and depending on hw they count the magic event crowds could be good or bad for the avg.

Yeh, but not by much.

Crowd growth is stagnant, which is a worry.
The worst stat is that this has been the closest competition for semi final places since 1908.
Never before have the semi final teams from top to bottom ended up within 4 competition points.
With such a close competition, you'd think there'd be larger crowds all round.
It's a shame it hasn't worked out that way.

In saying that the top 8 has distanced the remainder of the teams. 7 out of the bottom 8 were out of the running a month ago and the Tigers were "mathematical chances" for most of that period as well.
