3pm and 5pm kick offs Perth time... They're going to need to hope it's not one of those late summer mid to high 30's days... Surely 4:30 and 6:30 would have been better (7:30 and 9:30 in the east)... In saying all of that it'll probably be bucketing down and it'll be a moot point anyway

Those kickoffs on the Saturday aren't locked in by any means. More likely be 7 (4pm WA) and 9 (6pm WA) I'd say.

Also not 100% on the Kogarah game Round 1, could be Wollongong.

I pointed out this before. ANZ was OWNED by Stadium Australia Group. A privately owned business
https://sportandrecreation.nsw.gov.au/news/160704_anz_stadium_returns_to_public_ownership
So before The Stadium Australian Group would payed teams ? $50 k to play at ANZ.
http://www.venuesnsw.com/
Now it is Government owned NO payments to teams occur. IN fact teams are now charged $ to play at ALL Venues nsw ANZ.
This is the state of play now. These are the FACTS

Thats interesting

Wonder the charge per game is these days for ANZ v SFS charges

Who gets the home gate receipts ?

Dragons V Broncos at Kogarah seems a very low-key season opener
Could still be at Wollongong, but agree either way.

I think there's work going on at Wollongong so the 5 southern games will need to be packed into the first half of the season.

But overall I think the Perth DH is the big drawcard for the opening round, everything else is window dressing

If the weather is alright in NQ and the club pushes it hard, I reckon cowbs v sharks can push 20k. It’s JT’s 300th game so if they flog the piss out of that fact, I think it wil be a good crowd.

I found the Perth summer to be quite comfortable. The Fremantle doctor cools everything in the afternoon so a 5pm kick off isn't to bad. 3pm is way to early.

Haha, yes last two years games have been plagued by storms, probably be 40degrees this time! Will have to work out the shaded side of the stadium.

Do the NRL really think Ben Hunt moving to the Merge is such a big deal? Will we get voice overs on channel 9?

In all seriousness I'm thinking this will be a high scoring game and not a bad way to kick of the season. Both teams have an exciting attack when in form and dragons tend to start the season in peak form.

I guess Dragons vs Brisbane as round 1 ticks a few boxes, namely:
- broncos involved
- one of the (historically) bigger Sydney clubs involved
- the ben Hunt quasi “storyline”
- a ground (either) that looks good with mediocre crowds of 15,000+, which avoids the negative images of quarter full ANZ/Allianz Stadium for a Thursday season opener.

But why not open the season at Suncorp in front of a much larger crowd and/or bigger drawing ( in 2017) Sydney team?

then we'd complain we're wasting a big sydney derby on a thursday night
Im comfortable we're putting mid sized encounters for this grave yard time slot

Dragons-Broncos is one of the best marchups 9 can ask for (big Sydney club vs Fridy Night Broncos)

But Suncorp was the better choice, surely. Or at least SFS.

Well, aim low and you will never be disappointed. Lets go, mediocrat!
