Titans - 10 Cbus, 1 Gladstone, 1 Toowoomba

F*ck yeh!! Titans should absolutely be positioning as the team for regional South Qld. These kinds of moves are perfect.

Spot on. If the Broncos are a metropolitan team, playing out of "Fortress Suncorp", then the best way the Titans can make a point of difference is becoming a regional "South Queensland" team. Widen the net beyond the holiday strip.

I’d never thought of the Titans like this before. It’s a good thought. The Brumbies actually did this very well, better than the Raiders. They are the rugby team of ACT and south West Country NSW / Riverina.

In some respects it’s a shame they aren’t the South Queensland Titans but at the time it was a race to be first to the “Gold Coast” between NRL & AFL

Well, maybe one of the potential buyers could use this idea in their pitch to the NRL?

One of the selling points that the North Sydney Bears makes is that they want to operate a different model to past Gold Coast teams - in an effort to reach out to the dormant Bears fanbase. Well, what about some other buyer saying "We want to be a team for the Gold Coast AND the rest of South Queensland outside Brisbane."? Makes sense to me, and a regional vision might get their bid over the line.

Games in country areas, is this a club or NRL initiative? There was talk of more country games since CvC got the arse last year

Yep.

At this point in history the Bears have a much smaller fanbase then the Titans and aligning the two would alienate QLD fans.

I don't think the Bears are a serious bidder for any NRL team anyway.

Yeh, its a shame the Titans have allowed themselves to be isolated to the GC strip while the Broncos are though of as the South Queensland team....

Titans should be aiming for a City v Country dynamic; heading for the Brisbane satellite cities, preaching "the Broncos dont care about you, WE are the regional team".

Im more in favour of them becoming Gold Coast-Logan Titans....\\

It references their 1988 (Tweed) foundations in a far more Queensland way, they can be accused of deserting the GC, it immediately incorporates 300k extra people in Logan (just up the train line) and it is a stepping stone to other regional cities,

I can't see any future sporting teams limiting themselves to one suburban name in our lifetime

Manly are playing a game in Perth again
Yep, I've heard that too. Most likely in the mid-year (June/July) period that they've done here in recent years.

I've not heard who the likely opposition will be, but from a WA League-lover's point of view, it'd be nice to see some other teams get a run over here for a change. I'm not knocking Souths, NZ Warriors, Canterbury, Melbourne, or Manly by saying this, as I (and I'm sure the wider League community here in WA too) really appreciate seeing top-level Rugby League games being playing live (whoever play the games!), but variety is, they say, the spice of life.

Being biased, I'd love to see Newcastle play here again (as the last time was Round 2, 1996), but there are a number of clubs who have only played here once or less in the last 20yrs. Newcastle, Parramatta, Canberra, Penrith, Gold Coast, Nth Qld, Cronulla (or have they played here twice about 10-12yrs ago??), Wests Tigers, and Roosters. Plus St.George-Illawarra and Brisbane have played here twice in the NRL era, but not for several years.

I agree that Suburban names arent appropriate for expansion teams, but i dont think Logan ot the GC can be considered "Suburbs of Brisbane".

The have, respectively, 300k and 600k people. It would be more like Newcastle rebranding as the Newcastle-Gosford Knights (i am absolutely not suggesting this one).

For me, GC has too much of a "glitter strip" image, that culturally isolates it from the rest of SEQld. I think Gold Coast-Logan gives the club a more working-class, grounded image that would be easier to sell in the other working class cities (Ipswich, Tawoomba, etc)

I think everyone is missing that CBUS is unavailable because of the Commonwealth Games. Haven't heard any other reason offered for moving the games.

It's an interesting idea; but it's hard to see how it would work for Gladstone. As a former Gladstone boy few of the issues I see;

1. Gladstone is 600km north of the Gold Coast.

2. Gladstone is not "South Queensland". Once you are north of Hervey Bay it's Central QLD. And you have to understand the regional mindset - South East Queensland is the Sunshine Coast/Brisbane/Gold Coast metropolis. It's the base of an out of touch government and it's where nearly all the states revenue gets spent on infrastructure - the Bruce Highway is a disgrace, regional hospitals are under funded etc. etc. The South east wants daylight savings ffs. Gladstone identifies far more with Townsville which has similar industries and issues than with the glamour strip.

3. CQ does not want the leftovers of a South East team. They have developed a fine proposal for a local team in Rockhampton (100 km north) which captures the significant local junior base.

Don't get me wrong. I think the Titans taking a game or two a year to Gladstone or Rocky is a great idea and would be good for the region and for the Titans in the same way that the Bulldogs/Mackay relationship worked for a couple of years. Just don't try to play the inclusive part-of-South-Queensland card - that'll get the locals right off side.

The Bears bid is basically Florimo isn't it?

Norths Leagues aren't involved. Nor any other ex players and I'm sure on NRL 360, Flo said Billy Moore and Gary Larson would support it.

So who/what really is the Bears bid?

Their colours are now used by NZ Warriors and more synonymous with WSW in Sydney now.

And NSO should be utilised by Manly-Warringah, who with a bit of thought, guile and gumption could "own" NS thru the North Shore, Chatswood to Hornsby right out to the Northern Beaches and the Peninsula.

As for the Bear...it's hibernating. In all likelihood, forever.

And I see Scott Hill is still a whiny cockwomble.
"Gladstone, I question that," Sunshine Coast-based Hill said.
"There's less population there and you're never going to get an NRL team based there. It's interesting."
Hill said it was great to see the NRL heading to regional areas but he didn't think Marley Brown Oval was as good as Sunshine Coast Stadium at Kawana.

Gladstone RL, the council and the local member worked their asses off to get this. Usually it's a 6 and a half hour drive or a plane trip to go and see the NRL live. They worked for it and deserve it.
If Scott Hill thinks that Sunny Coast residents can't be assed to take the hour long drive to Brisbane I have no sympathy for them.

Tigers vs Roosters at anz? Da f**k haha

If true, I thought that game would've made most sense at Campbelltown

Roosters aren't exactly our biggest rivals and I doubt the Tedesco factor will have people streaming through the gates

sort of agree
if they are only going to play a few games at Homebush , they should only play the dogs , parra & possibly souths there.

should still get 16 or 17K at ANZ
but probably would have got a similar crowd at Campbelltown or Leichardt
