Good to see the Raiders get more than their standard ZERO, but this shit makes it pretty damn hard for the smaller teams to attrached sponsors and fans.

Its kinds of a self-fulfilling prophecy; "The popular teams deserve the FTA slots", they get all of the exposure and the smaller teams struggle to attrached new fans, "The popular teams deserve the FTA slots", and so on......

Do the viewing audiences actually reflect this on fta? What is the % difference of say Souths v panthers compared to souths v raiders?

Sunday 6:30pm is a solution brought about by clubs (and fans for that matter) complaining about matches being played in stifling heat in March when DST hasn't ended and temps are still quite warm. 2pm games take over from April.

Thanks Timmah

Personally I would prefer an additional Saturday evening game during the summer heat
I really wish the NRL would get over this "all games must be broadcast live" mentality

I would accept a slightly reduced TV deal if it meant more games were on at a more fan friendly time

I know its unrealistic, but what's wrong with playing both games at 4pm
One on Fox and one on Nine?

Same with the Friday night games
Schedule 2 at 7.30pm - have C9 choose one and Foxtel the other
Reverse the games on the channels and play them delayed as if they were live

Its what C9 should have done for all those years instead of dragging games over 2 hours plus by cramming in ad break after ad break until everyone switched off. It's their daft behaviour that got us here

Thursday nights are out.
Friday at 6pm is out.
Sunday night is out.
Monday night is out.
Saturdays there's kids sport.

When do you merkins want to f**king play games? Sunday afternoon before uncle Terry visits but not before bunnings shuts? Saturday nights but only if it's next door or I'm driven to the game by Arthur f**king Summons?

f**k me - it's not hard

Get over the whole "every game must be live" mentality and it's simple

Friday Night 7.30pm
Friday Night 7.30pm
Saturday 3.30pm (5.30pm in March cos of heat or just play in NZ)
Saturday 5.30pm
Saturday 7.30pm
Saturday 7.30pm
Sunday 2pm (6pm in March cos of heat)
Sunday 4pm

8 f**king games in time slots which suit attendances not TV executives

With Perth, NZ, daylight saving etc you can spread them around
You could even play the Saturday or Sunday early games on a Thursday night at 7.30pm during the hot months

f**k off the 5 day turnarounds - f**k off half the draw being on a school night - f**k off all the excuses as to why no one will attend

AND FOR f**k SAKE - get rid of this whole season draw in advance and go back to picking the draw 5 or 6 weeks in advance so we avoid all the cellar dweller bore fests for half a year cos..... Dragons rate well. merkins. Put the teams on FTA who are actually playing well who everyone wants to see

THATS WHAT BRINGS THE CROWDS IN

Since we went to full draw in advance, Foxtel have been getting all the big games. Nine are showing absolute dross. Worse than absolute dross some of it. Its appalling. There is no bigger turn off than boring shit teams dulling up your Friday night.

If fans don't get excited watching FNF they they don't go to games.

Good in theory, until the realisation that 9 will only want the big teams, meaning fans of smaller teams have even less chance of seeing their side play without Foxtel.

Exactly, and I pointed this out in the Knights-related thread on this issue...

Newcastle get a tough draw crowd-wise and potential results-wise >>> Knights go to the NRL and request a better future draw in both these factors >>> NRL doesn't worry about Knights getting a better draw until their results and crowds improve >>> A tough draw in shit time slots means Knights struggle for results and home crowds when people struggle to make the 6pm Friday time slot >>> Back to square 1 etc etc...

What you're saying is f**k off the billion dollar tv deals.
Live sport drives foxtel subscriptions, having games starting at the same time ain't gunna happen.

Nine wants rugby league on as many days as possible because it rates it's tits off. They're not paying top dollar for scraps.

I don't mind games overlapping but I don't think concurrent games are the answer. AFL's overlap regularly but usually only one timeslot (Sat 7:30pm) sees two games at the same time in full.

Seems not to to have affected the value of the other code having games overlapping? Our lack of geographical spread means we don't have the advatange of the different time zones as much.

We have NZ, they don’t.

Adelaide/SA is only a half hour behind so the time zone thing is pretty moot mate.

Not when it comes to Ko times and overlapping schedules for tv. We have limited time zone differences with just one nz club so overlapping Ko times becomes more a case of same time Ko times. They have 2 clubs in wa time zone, 2 clubs in SA Timezone etc.
Having said that fox will show two live afl games against each other so I don't see why they should be able to treat us differently?

Like I said before we had two fta games on a Friday night but everyone whinged about not getting games on tv live, now we have them all live we aren't happy as they have to be spread into sht fan attendance times.

Do you really think the TV companies are going to continue paying top money for TV rights if the product has driven the viewers to switch off?

Getting the times of games right, with the best games chosen with big crowds and big excitement surrounding the games is absolutely VITAL to the ongoing viewing figures and TV deals

We have messed so much with the successful formal which led to the bigger tv deals we are risking those deals anyway

If overlapping games gets the job done and avoids Thursday night games and Friday games at 6pm then I am all for it

Nope don't blame them at all! Have the biggest driving fanbase but give them games that don't accomodate travel time. Genius nrl!

There's quite a few fixtures when you go,through the full draw that you think wtf? Some big games that have been stuck on a Thursday night instead of a Sunday afternoon but the 5 day turn around issue in a sport that plays games over a 4 day a week period is always going to cause compromises.

They should be playing Friday to Sunday! Only public holiday weekends should the game days change to include other days like a Thursday evening or Monday.

Any proof that what you are suggesting is going to work?

Try looking at the way crowd numbers were going when the draw was sensible

Then look at the way crowd figures are going now and look at why everyone is whinging about it

Fixed draws and games on at unfriendly times for crowds (and TV audiences - seriously Friday at 6pm) isn't working. We're going backwards and at some rate

Our TV ratings are falling as well as the crowds

you work it out

Friday night double up was always complained about. I'd be fine if 6pm was canned and not replaced, with a Sat or Sun game additional. Same with Thursday - increase Sat/Sun games IMO
