Well unfortunately the Illawarra Cutters (who last year were renamed Illawarra RLFC) will next year play under the St George Illawarra Dragons name in the new revised NSW cup.
Correct. Steelers only remain at the Ball/Matts/Gale level.Well unfortunately the Illawarra Cutters (who last year were renamed Illawarra RLFC) will next year play under the St George Illawarra Dragons name in the new revised NSW cup.
That’s f**ked
Kogarah supplies the money - Illawarra and the South Coast supply the players.Well not really. As usual, Illawarra can’t fund a team. They can’t afford 1st grade, can’t afford reserve grade. If St George are paying the bills, they’ll be called St George Illawarra!

Oh I See, SorryYes Kieran, you posted it a few days ago.
On another note I’m still trying to figure out what the F a St George is... in my entire existence I’ve never met a person from St George
And i would assume most of the older football teams were referencing the Leagues Club that founded them. It was the LC that was names after the location, but obviously sometimes their name is a referenc to something else....
Im fairly sure it was a reference to the local church, wasnt it?
In the same way a lot of american colleges are old churches, the St George came from a similar institution. Same happened with the Brothers in Qld i believe.
Remove the religious stuff and a church (particularly one in the 1920s) isnt that different to a Leagues Club; community meeting place where locals go for a bit of entertainment. Its not surprising sports teams would come out of these institutions. Actually, if you cared enough to trace it back, id guess most Leagues clubs began as branches of local churches.

All g.
But google maps says there is a areain Sydney called St George.. this is them yes? Sorry if obvious , just only heard of the st George in qld and never bothered to see if nsw had one. Ha...
There are many districts in Sydney (and Australia) with names that don’t exist as a suburb. Whilst the Sutherland Shire & Canterbury Bankstown districts can trace their names to suburbs, there is no place called St George, (or Illawarra for that matter), nor is there a suburb called Cumberland, Eastern Suburbs, North Shore, Inner West, Hunter, Central Coast etc.
The origin of how the district got its name I’m not sure, but all the local district sports teams are called St George, there is St George Hospital, St George Building Society (Bank) etc are in the district.
No place called Illawarra?
