LOVE IT!!!
Howcome the silly poms can get a heritage more accurate than us.
Also how gangsta is Branson there.
If that was a NRL team heritage, would we not all be saying things like "the stripe should have been above the emblem" or"they have used the wrong shade of yellow"? I just think we are harsher on our own designs and have low expectations on the English designs.Howcome the silly poms can get a heritage more accurate than us.
Where is warringah ?
If St George are paying the bills, they’ll be called St George Illawarra!
Close. St George is the Parish of the area (ie. all the local Anglican churches report to the head of the Parish). Unlike most, the St George name stuck to represent the area, possibly due to the fact there wasn’t a major hub in the area like Parramatta, Manly, North Sydney, etc.Im fairly sure it was a reference to the local church, wasnt it?
In the same way a lot of american colleges are old churches, the St George came from a similar institution. Same happened with the Brothers in Qld i believe.
Remove the religious stuff and a church (particularly one in the 1920s) isnt that different to a Leagues Club; community meeting place where locals go for a bit of entertainment. Its not surprising sports teams would come out of these institutions. Actually, if you cared enough to trace it back, id guess most Leagues clubs began as branches of local churches.
And i would assume most of the older football teams were referencing the Leagues Club that founded them. It was the LC that was names after the location, but obviously sometimes their name is a referenc to something else....
And you would assume wrong.
Leagues clubs were built for the main purpose to support the football club, with the secondary purpose to service the local community.
St George LC was founded in 1952 (current site 1963)

ISC releasing wet weather jackets. Nothing special, but while all NRL and AFL teams retain their logos, Roosters have used this
Should be their actual logo...
They've been using the standing Rooster on training gear and supporter gear for years
