haha typical pollie, spend more on everything but save some as well. How much surplus each year do you think the NRL is going to have? So what would your target for a cash asset reserve be (not a future fund which as a very different thing and is money put away with an expectation of expending it over the coming duration). It seems you didn't like Smith's $80mill target so what by the end of this latest cash windfall for the game do you think the NRL should have in the bank by 2022?

and we dont know what this years surplus is yet, note surplus, not profit, (and likely less than Smiths surpluses in 13&14 despite much greater revenue) they are very different things in a business like the NRL's. Maybe they should have been spending that surplus on grass roots and expanding the NRLW or the multitude of other bottomless pits the NRL could spend its money on? Again you seem confused about if a surplus is a good thing or should be neutral bottom line as the game is investing all its money in its core activities.

Nice avoidance (I notice you spend a lot more time insulting posters than debating with meaningful contributions). So how much would you like to see the NRL have in the bank by 2022?

Haha you dodge questions better than a politician. Of course its a question and a pretty simple one. Do you think Greenberg should A) use this years surplus to spend more on grassroots and fill the gap created by the Grant club money decision or B) do you think he should put it in a cash reserve fund for as an asset for the game?
It is a very simple A or B answer!

re my love of Smith , he was by no means perfect but he was our best and probably last hope of seeing the game transformed into a modern business that didn't cave to individual interest groups at every turn.
A sizeable chunk of that surplus was intended to be spent on grassroots this year, but they are still yet to complete the latest review into how they should spend it.

I debate meaningfully with people who are not trolls or struck with the blaming mentality, who have reasonable rational views which is 99.9% of people here.

Boring people are constantly negative. You go figure.

Nice avoidance again with the personal; barbs, so how much would you hope to see the NRL has put away come 2022? It's good to see we finally got to the point where you do agree with Smith's strategic goal of building up a cash asset and not spending every cent of revenue each year. We got there in the end!

Only someone's brother i know who is a junior AFL coach in Victoria or what ever name they are called. I would sooner believe something coming for him than the BS that comes out of Vicky Kicky house as we all know by the number of times they have been caught out with claims of their junior playing numbers
Fair enough. I was just interested to see if you had concrete evidence. Anecdotally participation in sport is dropping everywhere it seems, especially for kids.

I didn't say it wasn't. I said i don't believe the BS that comes out of Vicky Kicky house about its growing junior numbers, because its not happening.
Its certainly not happening Sydney or Brisbane and in Victoria junior playing numbers are in decline.
You would be aware that one of the ways that the aFL count juniors is if a schoolboy or girl only has one lesson a week and that junior might not even be a member of any club and have no interest in playing aFL but is counted by the aFL as a junior when in fact they are not.

yes I'm aware, I think its common knowledge their participation numbers include auskick. Are there figures showing auskick is in decline?

A kid having a Auskick lesson really can't be classed as a aFL junior unless he plays for a club. Now just go back to the bigfooty forums where you have plenty of friends, adieu

The AFL can include anything they want in participation figures, as long as the definition of what is included is transparent. If so, fair enough, if not it's propaganda and lies

A kid having a Aus-kick lesson once or twice at at school without belonging to a club is just propaganda and lies from Vicky Kicky house in my opinion.

There you have it from the guru ... NRL up 3.8m ... AFL down 6.2m ... a combined divergence of 10m in favour of the NRL ... AFL made ground up in the finals series but overall NRL wins.

Seems like his finals numbers are still an estimate though?
