We've had this chat before. Moylan was seen as the future of the club and it came as a shock. Umina is a massive Moylan fan whoever he plays for. MX is, well, a tad excitable. You are correct though, in that Maloney in his first few games for us occupied the hallowed position on the Panthers forum formerly enjoyed by the likes of Paul Franze, Adam Woolnough, Brent Kite and Adrian Purtell.
Yep. Heat of the moment. Losing a player we loved and one of our best developed players.

We all came around on Maloney. Although I still love Moylan. I'm not above praising him.for good games or bagging him after shit ones

Panthers fans over rate their own moreso then most clubs fans. When Nathan comes to daddy they’ll claim Tyrone May was always the better player and one they wanted to keep.
You just described Tigers fans with Woods and Moses. :p Some fans might think our former players are shit automatically. But not me. I dont hate any of our ex players that I once loved.

I enjoy seeing them thrive and hate seeing them (Carty) fail.

Lol, I love nsw fans - we win and we're still calling our players plodders.

There was never a moment in last night's game when it looked like QLD would win. Stats don't always tell the full story.

I don’t think Cordners as bad as most fans make out, but he isn’t the God Roosters fans seem to think he is either. Somewhere in between in where he lays.

He is just a one dimensional guy who has maximised his talent by having a great attitude and working really hard, good for him but its nothing special every club has guys like that, if he played for the tigers he would have no rep jerseys. He runs hard and he tackles hard and he doesn't do much else.

i think the bench could be better maximised in regards to the period we were flat. freddy needs more minutes out of klemmer who has the tank for it.

In all honesty if I could sign Cordner or Yeo I’d take Yeo. 3 years ago Boyd no question but today he’s one of the most one dimensional forwards in the game. I know Roosters fans will be up in arms over this, but I don’t see much difference between him and Chris Lawrence these days.

I don't think we do. We've been fielding garbage for the last 10 years with a few exceptions.

youre kidding aren't you

No

Maloney is not a very skilful ball player/playmaker for an Origin half. He played for my team for 3 years and I can hardly remember him genuinely putting someone into a gap against a set defensive line

What he "creates" invariably comes from his running game. So yeah, he might pop up and make a big play out of nothing, but not in the classic way you would expect of a playmaker

Jeez you would think I was bagging the bloke

Cordner is one of those players, like Simon Mannering or Craig Fitzgibbon, who I'd refer to 'as a test of true rugby league knowledge'

If you ask someone who would you prefer, Fitzgibbon or Feleti Mateo? And they say Mateo, well then they don't truly understand rugby league.

Or who would you prefer, Simon Mannering or Dave Taylor? The misguided would choose Taylor.

Another good one - who would you prefer, Maloney or Moylan? Poor Mxlegend was aghast at the swap because he simply doesn't get "it". He sees the flash and that's it. I had to console these Penrith merkins and explain that they were getting a great player who'd improve their team.

Alas some like mx could only see the missed tackles and not the subtle brilliance of Jimmy, because they just don't get 'it'.

And similarly because Cordner doesn't make baenstorming breaks or give flashy flick passes, they miss the true value he brings to a team - his stamina, relentless work ethic in making the tough runs, his great D, his line running and decoy running in attack (led to a try for Latrell), and his on field leadership.

lol turn it up Tommy. I know that you know that this is overly simplistic. Workhorses and flashy players are both liable to be overrated or underrated for various different reasons.

Actually there is a tendency in the modern fan to OVERRATE workhorses because we are more stats obsessed and also more keen to ridicule people who make mistakes. Flashy players make more mistakes.

I'm the biggest Mannering fan you'll ever find but it's not because he makes X number of tackles, it's because his work has always been marked by its effectiveness. If he did just as much work but less effectively, I wouldn't be as much of a fan (actually we had a player like that- Michael Luck).

Cordner is the captain, and if fit, will be a certainty for the rest of the series and probably beyond. He's not the most dynamic forward we have but he has a great workrate, big motor and bleeds blue. Great win last night, now freddy will have the blokes hopefully primed for a win in game 2.

Agree.

I think coaches at times just use the bench for the sake of it or to fit their pre match plans rather than reading the game.

I don't think it was intentional, but i enjoyed the term "baenstorming." Seemed very Tommy-esque

What about Cordner or Tariq Sims?

I'm not a Cordner hater and can see the merit of having him in the team.

Some people think he was the best on the part last night. Some people think he was the worst. I thought he played his role and did it well enough.
