Siddle - the all rounder we never knew we had.
Smithy - still a legend.

Next test play Harris at 6 or something. He's got to be better than the the other 'options'

Conceding 150+ for the last two wickets. Such an England thing to do.

With Burns and Denly glorified nightwatchmen they're essentially already 2/30.

I reckon he's better off without it TBH - he wasn't right for it before, especially with the toxic gnome in the team... maybe in a couple of years, maybe not...

That's as good an innings as there ever has been though... wow

I think you’re right. In my opinion he always seemed to be like a nerdy kid trying to big time it to impress the bigger kids and looking like a dick head isn’t he process.
Let his batting doing the talking because his batting never makes him look like a dickhead.

Pollock, Headley and Sutcliffe are the ones I think of who at least warrant consideration - the former two can't be blamed for having shortened careers, but there are others with lower averages too...

But sure, if you think it's Smith, I'm not saying you're wrong - just not convinced it's the exact science you seem to reckon it is

He's certainly #1 in test cricket atm... no debating that
My pop always said Hobbs over Sutcliffe, but both of them got away with murder by playing with their pads. Don’t think that Law was charged where had to play a shot till the 30’s.

yeah, that's the thing with averages aren't the be all and end all - Sutcliffe's is higher, but most argue Hobbs was better

My old man said Pollock was the best he ever saw... at that level, they're all brilliant, pretty subjective.... days like Smith had yesterday are what people remember, everyone else plods and a great player looks like he's playing a different game

Smith picks up where he left off. Carrying Australia on his back with his bat.

Genuinely happy for him though. What a player!

Didn't expect to wake up to that when both Cumo and Pato were out. Great knock by Smith, Siddle with more fight than the so called batsmen

England may rue playing a hobbled Anderson, both Broad and Woakes bowled 20 plus overs.

Smith's innings is up there with his best ever.
