At least we didn’t collapse in a heap. When we lost that third wicket I thought for sure we’d be 5 or 6 down at stumps.

Head deserves some credit, he’s played sensibly in both innings so far. Nothing amazing mind you.

Smith, what can you say? Legend.

Some rain around tomorrow, and then it looks like a higher chance of rain on day 5.

Head has done really well to help stop the bleeding in both innings. Didn't kick on in the first but still instrumental in us getting something half worthy in the board. Would love to see him kick on this time.

Honestly he's been our best bat during the Smith ban IMO.

It wouldn’t be fair on the rest of the world if there wasn’t that gulf. He’s easily the best player of our time.

It’s embarrassing how easy he’s making it look- then we see fools like Bancroft and Warner try and play on it. I know Burns somehow got a ton after his 50 play and misses and not being given plumb lbw but Root looked untroubled out there. Winner of the series will be who gets more out of those two probably

England Still favourites but this test match is starting to get very interesting.
If our remaining batsmen can set a total of 200+ then Australia are a chance with overcast conditions and a turning deck.

this

There is gonna be some rain later on today from 2pm, so we need to make sure we are still batting

Head, Wade and Paine all need to contribute to make sure we have 200+ runs in the bank at least, preferably over 250+ if we dont lose much due to the weather

Hopefully ends up being a cracker of a test, we aint suppose to win here

Hope it rains from then to day 5 then. If we get a draw that’s a win for us.

Latest forecast says there might be rain around all day, but it’s patchy & not a high chance.

chances increase a lot tomorrow.

Smith averages something like 145 over the last 7 ashes tests.

The poms Don't know how to get him out.

Either do I tbf.

Gonna need a captains knock from Paine. And by that I mean whatever batsmen is still in when he comes, if it be Head, Smith or even Wade (any port in a storm right) he's gonna have to stick around and offer support.

Paine's not gonna score a test hundred, but sticking around could be enough. Maybe Siddle and Cummins can chip in as well.

I'm gonna say long term Smith will be captain again. I see Paine retiring after this next home test series, just in time for Smithy to take over again.
Smith would have learned a lot from this and come back better and more authoritive for it. No need to throw those lessons away,

That shot Paine played in the first innings was appalling.

Interesting to see what happens with Smith, I’d welcome him back as captain, but I’m not sure he’ll want it. Must be nice playing without all that extra pressure.

Did Root just ask the umpire, or Head, if the ball was going down leg?

Either is pretty funny lol

4 more handy runs, 200 run chase could be really tricky.

100%

With the likelihood of rain tomorrow and even here and there today I think we need fewer runs than a lot of people might think to make a game of it. 200+ is going to be tough in a stop start chase.
