How do umpires such as Joel Wilson end up on the ICC "Elite" panel??????
The officiating with him and Aleem Dar at Edgbaston was some of the worst umpiring I've seen in a test match, and he STILL got hired to do this test. Seriously, are the umpiring stocks outside of Australia and England really that low in the world to the point that he's the best they've got??
I mean, there's been some absolute shockers since it was introduced in 2002 (Russell Tiffin, Billy Bowden, Asoka De Silva , Rudi Koertzen come to mind), but that LBW off the last ball of Lyon was ABSOLUTELY plumb when I saw it live. Before the Hawkeye replay was shown, I could not believe it wasn't given out, regardless of whether it is in Saturday/Sunday arvo club cricket, grade cricket, state cricket, you name it......
Stokes played an outstanding innings and well done to him, but in reality, irrespective of Paine's crap captaincy (which needs to be examined between now and Old Trafford), Harris' drop catch (difficult chance, but he got a clean grab on the first attempt) and Lyon's missed run out chance (fielding blunder) just before the LBW controversy, regardless of all that stuff where we could've won it earlier, it still should've been game, set and match right then and there with that LBW, with the result being Australia winning by one run. If you're too pissweak to give it out, you shouldn't be umpiring, let alone at the highest level.
Reminds me of the NRL referees that are reluctant to blow a penalty out in golden point out of fear it will decide the match.
