Despite all the anger and frustration, and the displeasing result, it must be said that was probably the most amazing game of cricket I have ever witnessed.

The next game can't come soon enough. SOS Steve Smith!

Look through our list of captains, some of the all-time great players

Border, S. Waugh, Ponting.. Tim f**king Paine?

The English are laughing at us, the sandpaper shit was less embarassing.
I feel sorry for Steve Waugh (if he was present at the ground, as I know he's a mentor in the squad) if he had to witness that absolutely laughable performance we put in the last hour.

I thought Paine was doing a decent job with a shit team until that hour. Holy shit

You kind of knew, given the nature of the match, that wasted review was going to come back and get us. And it did in the cruelest of manners. Can't believe it!

Bad drop from Harris, fumble from Lyon and the not out plum LBW... Stokes was brilliant, but Australia just found a way to lose. So gutted.

Updated post:

How do umpires such as Joel Wilson end up on the ICC "Elite" panel??????

The officiating with him and Aleem Dar at Edgbaston was some of the worst umpiring I've seen in a test match, and he STILL got hired to do this test. Seriously, are the umpiring stocks outside of Australia and England really that low in the world to the point that he's the best they've got??

I mean, there's been some absolute shockers since it was introduced in 2002 (Russell Tiffin, Billy Bowden, Asoka De Silva , Rudi Koertzen come to mind), but that LBW off the last ball of Lyon was ABSOLUTELY plumb when I saw it live. Before the Hawkeye replay was shown, I could not believe it wasn't given out, regardless of whether it is in Saturday/Sunday arvo club cricket, grade cricket, state cricket, you name it......

Stokes played an outstanding innings and well done to him, but in reality, irrespective of Paine's crap captaincy (which needs to be examined between now and Old Trafford), Harris' drop catch (difficult chance, but he got a clean grab on the first attempt) and Lyon's missed run out chance (fielding blunder) just before the LBW controversy, regardless of all that stuff where we could've won it earlier, it still should've been game, set and match right then and there with that LBW, with the result being Australia winning by one run. If you're too pissweak to give it out, you shouldn't be umpiring, let alone at the highest level.

Reminds me of the NRL referees that are reluctant to blow a penalty out in golden point out of fear it will decide the match.

Tim Paine has lost the public with that

Nope. He’ll give some pat rafter level “gracious loser” speech, all the f**ksticks who don’t watch cricket but demanded smiths head will pat him on the back, and he’ll remain in his position for another 2-3 years

Australia contributed to that loss a shitload more than the umps did. No excuses, we plainly f**ked up.
I agree that there were chances to wrap up the match in the final 30 minutes, but despite all the screw ups Australia made, they still win if that one correct decision from the match official is made and that's all that matters at the end. It wasn't like it was a minor decision that had no bearing on the result; it occurred at such a crucial moment. The trend of favourable decisions going to the Poms way has continued since the World Cup, and that decision reminded me of the many NRL refs you see that are easily swayed by the home crowd regarding penalties.

Well as a life long fan of the game and obviously an Australia supporter he's lost me

He needs to do something significant to get that respect back, he's done f**k all with the bat, he's just got that "good guy" persona in press conferences, anyone who actually knows anything about this sport knows that Tim Paine isn't the guy who should be captaining this proud country

The pure incompetence and way the sporting organisations I follow lose have made the experience such a nihilistic, apathetic experience where I just laugh at the abortion that is the result...
I will get a goodnights sleep though (which is a bonus) because I'm straight used to this rubbish now
Sack Mary... Drain the Paine!

Moments we missed in the last 30 mins or so:

Harris throwing to bowlers end instead of Stokes' end
Harris dropped catch
Warner dropped catch
Lyon missed run out
Braindead review leading to the inability to review the last one.

Did I miss any?

I also have no f**king idea why Paine had the field back for 5 balls every over. We barely got a crack at Leach.
