Ladies and gentlemen,18 years since we last regained the Ashes on English soil, what was different this year from those previous 18? Matt Wade being in the team

History is made when you have fighters like Wadey hanging around pissing people off

Get some half decent umpires and you take poor review decisions out of the equation.

But seriously:
  • We won most tosses.
  • The Duke has a bigger seam this year making our bowlers more competitive.
  • Steve Smith is mining a once in a generation vein of form.
  • Anderson was injured early on and Stokes and Archer fought niggles.
  • Joe Root is a pretty mediocre captain.
Let there be no doubt that our batting line up was poor outside of Smith and Labuschagne.
Their bowling outside of Broad was largely mediocre.
It's absolutely true that Steve Smith was the difference but it would be 4-0 without Ben Stokes.

It really was a great performance. To come up with that after what happened at Headingley is special. I thought we were gone after losing that.
The second best bat in the history of the sport came back in. No idea why people were worried

This is a pretty good effort after the dissapointment of last test .
Still did it the hard way to get 20 wickets.

As chief bedwetter i always thought we had that. Even during the first session when england dug in a little bit i was pretty confident we would win. It was a bit like the sharks game. I never think the Raiders will win but i was just really calm during that game.

Now luckily i fell asleep halfway through session two or id have probably started wetting the bed at a few of those partnerships but hey we won.

Im extremely chuffed tbh

Bringing back Hazlewood has been a difference

Essentially Smith has been better than everyone and with Labia, Cummins and Hazlewood has outperformed Stokes, Burns, Root, Archer and Broad

But the teams are even except for Smith...

Have to give credit to Paine, we all potted him (myself included and it was warranted) but his captaincy on Day 5 in this test was pretty good, he also made some runs.
I don't agree with they. Didn't attack enough with his field. Kept bowling Lyon when the ball was clearly reversing and Lyon was hitting the right line/length once every 2 overs.

Australia won despite his unimaginative captaincy imo.

He has done a great job of rebuilding the Australian image over the last 2 years after Bancroft destroyed it but his time has surely come to an end.

Starc, Hazelwood and Cummins should have been the pace attack from the get go instead they insisted on picking Mr Glass and The Tofu muncher.
