This is real "slide of hand" tactics from Gould.

Tigers would be very nervous right now. Not only is their star recruit doubtful, but their coach is about to walk away in the middle of a successful rebuild.

How's Tim Grant feeling today - left Penrith because of a fall out with Cleary (Ivan), only to have him follow Grant to Tigers. So he signs again with Penrith, only to have Cleary turn up again as coach.......

Not keen on Cleary at all. That ship has sailed. Ciraldo takes over for the rest of the season, while we actually conduct some f**king interviews and see who is the best man for the job. Cleary is welcome to apply of course in that scenario, but hopefully we find someone better who actually has a game plan that suits our players.

Maybe Ivan like Tim and is following him?

I just want the club to actually go through a process. If Cleary is the best fit after that then so be it.
That process has already taken place in Phil Gould's mind. He knows who he wants and since we now believe what re read in the media the approach has already been made. The Tigers, though, aren't playing the game and you can hardly blame them.

From what I've read a restraint of trade is very hard to enforce and isn't held up in court easily.
From personal experience, I disagree. I had a non-compete clause enforced upon me in Feb this year. Luckily we brought the clause down from 12 to 3 months without stepping into court (but still with costly legal advice). Court proceedings would have cost a minimum of 30k.

If Ivan has a non-compete in his contract and the Tigers have legitimate reasons to enforce such a clause (which they would), then I would favour them heavily if it went the legal path.

What if Nathan really wants to play under his Father but doesn't want to leave Penrith?
Could that be a factor in Gould chasing Ivan?

That could be at the base of it all.

Penrith get to keep Nathan. Nathan and Dad play together. Panthers get a good coach, whose had a rest and refresh.

After say 2 years Ivan does Gould's role and Cameron takes over as coach.

Now that could work ? couldn't it ?

Remember Gus's comments about his agreement with Nathan. Along the lines of 'if Nathan told me he wanted to play under his Dad...make it happen' Gus said he would do what he can to make it happen.
