As far as coaching jobs goes this is probably the best opportunity a new coach has ever had in the NRL.
A top 8 team with a fantastic roster, every available coach in the world will be throwing their resume at the panthers.

depends. If just making the 8 is now seen as a fail. Comes with high pressures too

Refusing to accept help to fix your shortcomings is seen as a failure. Not using all the resources available and getting the entire playing roster and staff offside with you is not acceptable.

Gus seemingly did everything he could to make up for issues fans could see he had 3 years ago. Gus saw them too. He just thought he could work around them.

Hook had a dream job and pushed everyone away. That's on him.

Ivan Cleary is clearly the short priced favourite.

No need for an interview either which should speed up the process.

But the non-compete would only be against them. They can't stop him coaching against other teams.

I know with mine I wasn't allowed to approach customers or contacts of my ex employer for 6 months after i left.
For me, it was similar but given my position, I negotiated to sit on the sidelines for 3 months rather than risk an injunction, going to court and losing; then having to do so for 12.

Cleary isnt the best coaching option. But hes a hell of a lot better than Hook and I think could win a competition in the right circumstances.

Not sure those circumstances could ever occur with Hook though.

Biggest upside to Ivan is Nathan would stay for a pretty average contract. Would prefer Fittler though and to get Ivan a different job here in 2 years. Maybe replacing Gus.

Yep. This is what it comes down to.

The club tried to give him all the help he needed and he was just to stubborn and arrogant to accept it.

It would appear to be the case. It just doesn't make sense he thought he could survive as head coach while not maintaining a solid working relationship with Gould, other members of his staff and playing group.

If the next coach only has the job if they follow Gus' rules...They too will fail.

A coach needs to be able to do their thing. I hope they bring their own support staff and adjust the playing roster to suit them. If the board and Gus don't like that style then get rid of them. Or why even have a coach?

Interviews help decide if the coach is the right fit

Why do we need the process to be quick? Whoever we choose, they are not coaching us this season.

We don't. Just referring the fact our last coach was appointed apparently without a formal interview and if Ivan get's the job no need to interview him either. I think the time is right to go with some one new, young and fresh but I think it is a given Ivan is going to get the gig.

If someone comes in and changes the roster they have rocks in their head.

Yep. Consult the players about the coaches. The coaching staff. Try and make sure everyone is happy.

If Ivan comes and everyone other than Nathan was made about it then it would be a mistake. I doubt that's the case. But we dont want a coach coming in to rebuild.

I think that is why we will go with Ivan Cleary rather than another coach. He will come here with the knowledge it is not a rebuild job, he will inherit the playing roster which we have locked up for a few years to come and inherit the majority of the existing coaching and support staff.
