I was at the SCG today. Looked more than 38400. Wondering if veterans are counted?

I was certainly wondering where another 8000 would fit.
Yes there were plenty of empty seats, but no where near 8000.
This was one day where the ground/Roosters could have bullshitted the attendance, if ever they were going to do so.

Same at the MCG today, maybe a few hundred empty seats around the stadium but not 7000 short of 100% full. I wonder whether some of these stadium capacities are fudged, especially when so-called sellout matches don’t manage to completely fill venues.

If it was the Waratahs, it would of been 50K+ including the seccies, police and their horsies all counted.

A sell out is when all available tickets are sold. This does not guarantee a full house believe it or not as members seats are often unattended. The capacity of both venues is correct.

At aami park now. Will admit that this looks like it won’t be the same as previous years. No excuses tbh, so I’m disappointed In fellow storm fans if the crowd does turn out poor

MCC membership is a complete farce that dominates a large portion of the new stand. The members seem to only attend grand finals, which is why grand finals only make the 100k mark.

A good example was origin 2 2015 which was sold to very few single seats, but 7000 seats were vacant in MCC areas.

Last years prelim between Richmond and Collingwood sold all of the general public seats in about 5 minutes but only drew 95k. Just like any stadium with membership packages, the members let almost every crowd down.

I was present at the origin match and you are absolutely correct

With regards to sellout matches, it's become common that they never reach capacity. Too many members/season ticket holders these day of which many cannot make a game day.

3 examples.

- AAMI Park in Melbourne has never reached its claimed capacity of 30500, despite many many times stating that games have been sold out.
- Tottenham Hotspurs new stadium has sold out 5 times out of 5, but is yet to reach it's capacity as well.
- Bankwest was advertised as sold out last Sunday, yet came in 1000 under claimed capacity. There were actually 2 large banks in the top deck of the north and south ends that were vacant, so I'm guessing those seats just weren't sold.

There are several reasons for matches not reaching capacity.
The two main ones are

- Members/season ticket holders not being able to make match day and not on-selling or passing on their tickets
- Ticketek's absolutely f**king stupid and painful release of tickets. it just doesn't work.

A few more will trickle in before the game starts but maybe 21-22k tonight? Too many large sections empty to be much more than that I would think.

Still think it already looks good. You were right with your reply to me earlier, it’ll look good even if it doesn’t quite get the attendance of the last few years. Shouldn’t have doubted, I went to this game from 2011-16 and it doesn’t let us down too often.

While I know Melbourne have enough fans to fill AAMI Park - usually the warriors contingent is quite large - I wonder if kiwis stayed away tonight.

Tonight AAMI was sold in reserved seats mode so it might end up being more than it looks.
