2019 Crowd Watch

You had to scan in or out when entering or exiting. So they would have had a defined time point for each game...maybe 30min mark? And they would have known exactly how many people were in the stadium.

Having sat there for 7 games, and having paid $150 ($20 per game), I definitely think I should be counting as a crowd member for 7 games, not 2.3 games

One thing you can just about guarantee is that when we have a total crowd figure for a round is that it doesn’t include people doubling, tripling or quadrupling up on games. So if a round has a total of 120,000 fans in attendance it is 120,000 different fans attending. The total.of the magic round of 134,000 does include people who purchased multiple day passes. So if fans on average bought 3 day passes. It is quite possible just over 40,000 different fans attended games. Which is still quite a good figure.

Loved the Magic Round concept. Crowds were awesome, and had a great festival vibe to it. A breathe of fresh.
Although the new Tville stadium probably isn’t big enough, I’d love to see it brought there. The people of nqld would go nuts.
Anyway, hope it returns next year, wether it’s brisbane again, or somewhere else.

They also had two crowds under 10000. The 14000 probably wasn’t the biggest worry
There is no point comparing the two sports they

It was a great event and a lot of lessons will be learned on how to further improve it. The setup at the northern end with the garden enclosure was great and they’d be mad not to explore another similar feature at the southern end to add to the carnival. Thats what it is at the end of the day. Fox will no doubt bump up their outdoor broadcasts as will 9.
The idea is to bring fans together for a weekend and I think a lot of the doubters will change their tune.
I have said previously that scheduling needs some work, in hindsight the War-StG game would have worked better as the last fixture on Saturday to keep the fans in til the end. No reason why the Broncos could not be on the last game on Sunday which would probably ensure a full house.

I didn’t compare the two sports . I said the two crowds under 10000 were a bigger worry than the crowd of 140000. Kinda makes sense? Afl still got over 250000 to 9 games this weekend. That’s a bad week for them.

Exactly
That makes it a bullshit crowd figure.
What I’ve seen them do on grand final day as an example is give the crowd figures for earlier matches dependent on the number of people who have scanned their ticket and entered the ground during that game. Kind of makes sense.

and if say 10k went home before FG they should adjust the crowd to match

STADIUM AVERAGES FOR ROUND 9

Screen Shot 2019-05-13 at 11.55.03 am.png

I sat here staring at it for ages not knowing which way to add the crowds up..

In the end I remembered at the start I said all crowds would be recorded from the NRL.com match centre, and for consistencies sake I'll use those figures (the "inflated" ones).

The bottom of the table shows Brisbane's totals if the the final crowd figure of each day was used and divided by the number of games played that day.

The region and overall totals/averages are based of the NRL.com / "inflated" figures though. An asterisk has been placed on the Brisbane and Queensland figures for because of this.

Dunno. I just remember the crowd figures being higher each game closer to the gf. But that kind of explains some empty seats at grand finals. You might only want to watch your club play earlier then leave.

But the AFL always have and always will get much bigger attendances than all other sports in this country. There is no point bringing up the comparison. They are hellbent on big crowds at games and the culture is about attending, being a member etc. Mostly driven by Melbourne which has an obsession with the game which one cannot comprehend unless you live there for an extended period. Those games involving all Melbourne teams see 50k as barely a pass. Souths v Roosters see 25-30k as a great effort. Its a different culture but I accept you were just pointing out they had two crowds under 10k. The support for league in the heartland is as strong as ever its just a pity those numbers at the gate aren’t reflecting it.

I didn’t compare them. I merely referred to afl crowds in the context of a previous post.

People don't scan out when they leave so hard to get.

Yes they did! So it’s easy to get. You can’t just have an open gate for people to leave from when there are games still pending.

Regarding the 41k for the last game, it depends what time point they used. Definitely would have been correct at kick off. People progressively left as it became less and less of a contest

NRL Brisbane Magic Round
NRL Media Release
Mon 13 May 2019, 01:15 PM

NRL CEO Todd Greenberg said today NRL Brisbane Magic Round had been a huge success, with almost 135,000 attending over the four days at Suncorp Stadium.

The NRL has announced that during the first ever NRL Brisbane Magic Round:

Total crowds of 134,677 had been recorded across the four days of the round (an average of 33,669)
Approximately one quarter of all ticketholders came from interstate
Ticket purchasers came from 10 countries outside of Australia and New Zealand, including the US, the UK and France
About 10,000 children were engaged through 23 school and junior club visits by NRL players

Mr Greenberg said NRL Brisbane Magic Round had been a phenomenal logistical effort and ultimately a successful event.

"By our key measures Magic Round has certainly been a wonderful success," Mr Greenberg said.

"The crowds have been fantastic and there has been a real festival atmosphere both inside and outside the stadium.

"Importantly though, we have seen some great initiatives away from the games themselves - 23 school and junior club visits, four Voice Against Violence workshops, as well as coaching and refereeing education events.

"The number of different jerseys at all games has been one of the really pleasing signs. With such a high percentage of people buying the three-day passes, it's clear fans embraced the concept and wanted to watch multiple teams, games and days.

"The city of Brisbane has been abuzz this week and our clubs and players should be congratulated for the way they have carried themselves.

"An incredible amount of planning and work has come together to make this a great success and something to really build on into the future.

"The success of the event is testament to the partnership between the NRL, Brisbane City Council and the Queensland Government.

"It's also very much as a result of the colour and the passion which the supporters brought to the event over all four days."

Tourism Industry Development Minister Kate Jones said the Queensland Government invests in major events that support local jobs and pump millions into the state's economy.

"Almost 135,000 people attended the first ever Magic Round - that's about 40,000 more than first anticipated.

"This is testament to the fact that Suncorp Stadium is the country's best rugby league stadium, and that Brisbane is a world-class event host."

Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner said the Australian-first NRL Magic Round didn't disappoint.

"Footy fans came from far and wide to enjoy the Magic Round and provide a boost to our local economy with our hotels, bars and restaurants full to the brim with jerseys of every colour," Cr Schrinner said.

"After the great long weekend of footy, we look forward to building on the success of the inaugural event and welcoming the Magic Round back in 2020."

Looks as though a resounding success, in terms of visitors, crowds,Tv ratings, merchandsie sales no doub tand fingers crossed ,eyes twitching ,no player off field atrocities.

Home teams got well rewarded, the NRL got gate proceeds?
We continually bag the NRL H/O for not thinking outside the square and rightly so, but this time IMO they done good..Greenberg can now send me a cheque for my spin.

Storm v Tigers 12k
Panthers v Warriors 10k
Broncos v Roosters 30k
Titans v Bulldogs 10k
Cowboys v Eels 12k
Raiders v Souths 16k
Dragons v Knights 10k
Sharks v Manly 14k

Total around 115k, Average 14.5k

Could potentially have 3 crowds under 10k. Not sure about the Broncos crowd after Magic Round.
