Thursday nights with an 8pm kick off can get in the bin

I made it to the game but would have been just as happy on the couch with a 6 pack and a pizza, but I suppose that’s why these Thursday night games are so popular with broadcasters

Thursday is crowd poison, but I feel like even if this fixture was drawn on Friday or Saturday, only 13-14k would show up.

Storm can typically get 16k-18k for any Primetime Friday or Saturday night game (outside of Good Friday).

They just haven't been given the opportunity yet.

Of Storm's 5 games in Melbourne this season--- 3 have been on Thursday nights, 1 on Good Friday and 1 on a Sunday afternoon.

If the game was that much better to watch at the ground, than on tv, a lot more people would still go watch it on a Thursday night, the AFL crowds in Sydney,Brisbane Melbourne can all attract 30k plus on a Thursday night, they don’t seem to worry that traffic, work or school will get in the way of watching the game live.

The game needs to work on the attendance culture. NRL attendance to TV ration is the worst in the whole of world sport (pure speculation).
Things that would help include:
Coaches on side line
Quarter time breaks
cheaper tickets
Advertise for people to attend the ground (nobody watching on TV or attending a game should ever leave a game questioning when the next home game is or how to get a ticket. They should be able to buy a ticket to the next game while at the ground).
A free game day magazine (cheap booklet)
Good light show like Bankwest
etc...

I think there is one afl Thursday night game each year at Easter. I’m not sure that’s a gauge for anything.

That's because there is more supporters of those AFL clubs. They would still have the same percentage of fans staying home.

There are about ten, but apart from the opening game of the season, they only work well in the smaller markets / smaller grounds, not so much @ MCG. It is a necessary evil if the codes want top $$$ from networks. Thursday don’t work for families unless school holidays.

It was a Thursday night before Good Friday, they had 35,000 there, in Sydney on the same night they got 10,000 for the NRL.
