Perhaps this Queensland Darby was poorly marketed. 11000 though not miniscule seems well below the mark as far as an all Queensland combatants match is concerned. Personally thought 20000 would have been a good crowd . Both teams won in the previous week. Weather was good. Oh well. We move on.
don’t blame us, NQ fans seemed make up a good portion of that crowd. Don’t play it during the origin period would be a start though to help get the crowd numbers up. But hey, they scheduled the Tits game in Tvl on a friday 6pm skit so the NRL don’t give a f**k about fostering that ‘derby’.........

I would think it would be an advantage playing this game on the Sunday before Origin in Queensland as fans travelling south for Origin could come a few days earlier and get this game toodon’t blame us, NQ fans seemed make up a good portion of that crowd. Sure its a Queensland 'Derby', but is there a rivalry there that warrants a bigger crowd than normal? The distance from TSV to the GC is more than 1.6 times the distance from Sydney to Melbourne....

David Smith’s agenda was clearly directed at cleaning them out. Just another reason he had to go.50k is best result expected apparently, and that’s only if stadium members rock up.
The QRL are run by amateurs, how the hell the most recognisable brand in qld sport & potentially Australian sport can’t even find a decent naming rights sponsor I will never know. Something has happened to go from having AAMI as naming rights sponsor to selling it to intrust super for 100k and then this year having some random small regional bank. Origin is the most watched event on tv every year and should have Australia’s blue chip sponsors lining up to get a spot on their jerseys. Both state bodies are absolute chook raffle level administrators and in an ideal world neither would even exist.
They were under priced back then, they are probably a fraction over priced now. Selling out in 40mins is a great headline but it was a sign the game was losing money. It is amazing to see what the nrl has done to Suncorp origins. I used to take mornings off high school to battle ticketek and secure tickets. All gone in 40 minutes.
Unfortunately money talks and they have gotten themselves in a right pickle.
Game 1 2017 they said 45k and got 50k, game three last year they were worried and got over 51. I’m hopeful of sub 47k so they actually realise the fans are sick of it.
How many catering tents are there out the back of Suncorp? They should just do what the AFL do and steadfastly claim the games a sellout, regardless of how many thousands of empty seats there are. Unfortunately the NRL media aren’t sycophantic stooges and won’t blindly regurgitate the spin in the same way the AFL media do.
