2019 Crowd Watch

Perhaps this Queensland Darby was poorly marketed. 11000 though not miniscule seems well below the mark as far as an all Queensland combatants match is concerned. Personally thought 20000 would have been a good crowd . Both teams won in the previous week. Weather was good. Oh well. We move on.

don’t blame us, NQ fans seemed make up a good portion of that crowd. Don’t play it during the origin period would be a start though to help get the crowd numbers up. But hey, they scheduled the Tits game in Tvl on a friday 6pm slot so the NRL don’t give a f**k about fostering that ‘derby’.........

Perhaps all NRL games should be played well away from State game the weekend prior to the match? Seems logical ?

Vossy tweeted that the car park at the Tits game was locked down until 7pm. So not only did 11000 go and watch 34 village stooges play park level football, they then had to talk about it for an hour until the gates were opened for them to leave lol I thought their crowd numbers were as they were because they suck but cant imagine shemozzles like this help

Sure its a Queensland 'Derby', but is there a rivalry there that warrants a bigger crowd than normal? The distance from TSV to the GC is more than 1.6 times the distance from Sydney to Melbourne....

Seems fairly ballpark for this match at this venue - last year's 26k being an anomaly for JT's final match. Otherwise:

17k
9k
12k
12k
15k
14k

I would think it would be an advantage playing this game on the Sunday before Origin in Queensland as fans travelling south for Origin could come a few days earlier and get this game too

Nailed it! There is not a rivalry at all between the Cows and Titans and it is not exactly easy for the Cowboys NQ fans to get to the game even though it is in the same state.

You raise a very good point but I doubt there’d be many travelling NQ fans down for origin, the pricing is pretty horrendous at suncorp for Wednesday.

Any updates on Origin crowd?

You can buy 8 diamond tickets in a row still.

Pretty sure prices have gone a bit overboard considering this game used to sell out in half a day.

50k is best result expected apparently, and that’s only if stadium members rock up.

The QRL are run by amateurs, how the hell the most recognisable brand in qld sport & potentially Australian sport can’t even find a decent naming rights sponsor I will never know. Something has happened to go from having AAMI as naming rights sponsor to selling it to intrust super for 100k and then this year having some random small regional bank. Origin is the most watched event on tv every year and should have Australia’s blue chip sponsors lining up to get a spot on their jerseys. Both state bodies are absolute chook raffle level administrators and in an ideal world neither would even exist.

David Smith’s agenda was clearly directed at cleaning them out. Just another reason he had to go.

It is amazing to see what the nrl has done to Suncorp origins. I used to take mornings off high school to battle ticketek and secure tickets. All gone in 40 minutes.

Unfortunately money talks and they have gotten themselves in a right pickle.

Game 1 2017 they said 45k and got 50k, game three last year they were worried and got over 51. I’m hopeful of sub 47k so they actually realise the fans are sick of it.

They were under priced back then, they are probably a fraction over priced now. Selling out in 40mins is a great headline but it was a sign the game was losing money.

They should just do what the AFL do and steadfastly claim the games a sellout, regardless of how many thousands of empty seats there are. Unfortunately the NRL media aren’t sycophantic stooges and won’t blindly regurgitate the spin in the same way the AFL media do.

Sycophantic stooges or paid employees?

So good this. The AFL media and admin live by the infamous George Costanza ethos “Its not a lie if you believe it”
