Well it was pissing down too... so the NRL can’t cop all the blame.

Would you have still blamed the NRL had the game been played in Sydney?

Clearly most people don’t want to turn out to watch nrl on a Thursday night when the two teams best players are missing. Doesn’t matter where you played it.

Omott91 - you are way off the mark!
They had several sell outs over the past three seasons which I don’t think anyone else has. It is the biggest RL nursery which is still growing, with more clubs than some areas have teams. An upgraded stadium with more cover would give a significant increase to crowds.
Question- who do you follow?
A sellout is great but they are starting from a low base, 21 capacity ? Unfortunately though the rl nursery you mention isn't resulting in above nrl average crowd figures, are they? Btw I am a Knights supporter.

The roosters propping up those Sydney averages as usual
You do realise those figures are inflated due to Magic round. In reality Roosters actual figure would be lower. The problem I have with those Magic round inflated figures is that if you average those Home figures they don't equal the average nrl average crowd attendance.

tbf the SCG is currently the 3rd best attended venue by average, at an average of 18,826 for 5 games (behind Brisbane and Newcastle), although you would expect that to drop by the end of the season after a few more non-event games

I hope crowds like this bury the disaster that is Thursday Night Football

I f**king hate them
If they are going to persist with Monday/Thursday nights for TV over crowds, they need to compensate the clubs with incentives to get crowds on those games

For example the NRL should offer each team hosting a Thursday night game up to $100,000 and each game should sell 10,000 tickets to the TV side of the game for only $10 with the NRL matching the $10.

I reckon fatty hosting the footy show was better Thursday night entertainment.

Not that I ever saw much of it.

Aah! Newcastle has a State Government funded stadium. So it's ok for you but nobody else should get assistance to upgrade. Sounds fair!

They already compensate them with a higher TV deal,
I personally love thursday night games and if it was up to me, id have a game on every night but it's not and I'm not your typical whinging NRL fan from Sydney, I'm one of the ones that enjoys the product of the NRL

It is the clubs that want Thursday night games. There is no way the TV contracts get signed off on without the clubs agreeing to it. So....
What they should do is take the Thursday night games to regional areas.

Penrith has a lovely new stadiium 30 minutes up the road.
Newcastle had one 30 minutes down the road in Gosford!
I suppose if you have the advantage of a Government owned ground you don’t want anybody else to get the same!
