Best available cheap seats for Broncos-Storm is directing me to the upper tier of the western stand....could be tracking toward a high 30’s or better

Nearly there! We need the western stand to sell out and get through a bit of the east before 35k

A possible solution would be 15 to 18s playing on Sundays. This would free up some grounds and timeslots on a Saturday. Also workable on a Sunday pending on age groups of children. Understanding that all doesn't fit some scenarios.

13s plus normally already play on Sundays.

Note kids sport doesn't necessarily mean rugby league, it is far more likely to mean soccer and netball

@Stallion second tier RL can work - take note

Good business does not destabilise an existing and longstanding market advantage ( in this case longstanding and popular - Australia wide clubs). Northern Sydney is still an ongoing problem for the code . One club north of the Harbour bridge to the Central Coast leaves the code in a precarious position. Thankfully Manly are doing well. Newtown is a well promoted and targeted home game experience. Very local and cultural but will not be general knowledge in the big picture. Still a good thing but not main culture . Perhaps it could be seen as a sub culture.

So let’s talk about the Newtown game yesterday.

They announced 8972 which is their tradition but the official crowd was 9500.

-Tickets were expensive at $25 a pop. Normally it’s $5 to get in.
- Season seat holders were not allowed entry to this game- they had to buy a ticket.
- The Henson facilities absolutely cannot cope.
The toilet lines were outrageous.
-Henson is not that well serviced by public transport- it’s a fair walk from the station.
- The parking situation is non existent. Busy residential streets only.
- That was the best crowd at Henson since 1973 and probably (I am just guessing) the best second tier crowd in RL ever and eclipsed many NRL crowds this year...

So all the geniuses on here that claim Sydney people are not interested in Rugby League, need new stadiums, great transport and parking links blah blah blah are wrong.

The Newtown board have shown what is possible if you engage the community.

Wow, what was the game? Why was it special?

What does the club do to "engage the community"?

Some Newcastle Rugby League games use to get pretty big crowds and maybe still does (the GF gets more than 10k most years I think). So I doubt it is a record for second tie.

But very interesting non the less.

It was the Beer, Footy and Food festival!

Beer Footy & Food Festival
BEER FOOTY & FOOD FESTIVAL RETURNS IN 2019 FOR ITS FOURTH YEAR

HENSON PARK – SATURDAY 27th JULY 2019

The Music and Booze Company and the Newtown Jets Rugby League Club have teamed up again to present the 2019 Beer, Footy & Food Festival. Returning to Henson Park the Beer, Footy & Food Festival is a winter ritual for lovers of tasty craft beers, delicious food and the Newtown Jets to embrace the day at historic Henson Park in Marrickville.

Henson Park is one of the few old-school sports grounds remaining in our fast-paced world. Drenched in history, Henson Park has witnessed many historic Jets games and brutal clashes in its 82-year history and is a reminder of a disappearing tradition: a Saturday afternoon sprawled on a blanket with family and friends watching the footy.

After 3 incredibly successful years, the family-friendly event will expand on its 2018 roster and welcome 30 brewers to Henson Park from across Australia. There’s also a plethora of food on offer with 15 local food trucks and businesses setting up shop.

The Beer, Footy & Food Festival is fun for the whole family, with 2019’s festival promising the biggest kid-friendly offering yet, with a giant tiger slide, a mechanical footy, petting zoo, obstacle course, jumping castles, face painters and more. Better yet, kids under 16 get into Henson Park for free!

BEER FOOTY & FOOD FESTIVAL WANTS TO MAKE NEWTOWN JETS’ FOLKLORE A REALITY

During a wet and miserable home game in the ‘90s, Ground Announcer John Lynch made up the day’s attendance figures, solemnly advising punters that the crowd stood at 8,972. The attendance of 8972 has been part of Jets folklore ever since and in 2019 the Beer Food & Footy Festival holds the high hopes of hitting that now-historic number.

It’s the beer, footy and food festival which is now an annual event the jets run in collaboration with local craft breweries and restaurants. When I say record breaking I mean for a regular season, non finals match.

Is Newtown somebodies reserve grade now? If so too bad because thats a degrading status. Its bad enough that they play in what is considered a reserve grade competition. They should start their own comp with no affiliation to NRL clubs allowed. Compete with the NRL.

You have a city with a population around 450000 and get 20-25k at a government funded stadium.
Penrith is around 200000 with a council owned stadium and get 15-20k. We have more sellouts than any other team in the NRL over the past 3 or 4 seasons. How many has Newcastle had? Zero sounds about right!
We have more juniors than Newcastle.
I could keep going, but you would never agree with the facts!
Ha, 15/20k you say? Check the facts on your crowd average this year and the many preceding this year and then get back to me.

Newcastle/The Knights should be badgering the government for upgrades to the stadium because the town ultimalty wants to bid for Magic weekend, national team games, maybe even dead rubber state of origin games and other biggish events.
I think the NSW government should be thinking of Newcastle as a place that competes with Adelaide and Perth for events. So for example if a womens world cup soccer ever comes to Australia games are played in Sydney and Newcastle.

People won't want to here it on here but the shute shield has made good strides in offering a similar experience the last 5 years.

I've been to many a game at forshaw park which like Henson is not easy to get to via public transport, tickets are mid range at $15 but the beer and food is reasonable. Southern Districts don't get 10k but it has improved year on year to the point where they get 3-4k once or twice a year.

They offer 4 grades throughout the day and a piss up at the club afterwards.

Other clubs like manly and warringah are getting good crowds too especially against each other.

The type of experience they are offering does have a ceiling because at some point TV, corporates and bigger stadiums come in to it but what shute shield and 2nd tier footy are both doing is offering an alternative and I personally know a bunch of sharks fans who have been to several shute shield matches in the last few years and 0 sharks matches.
