2019 Crowd Watch

People have talked about improving match day experience but places like Suncorp are world class. The play on the field should always be the no.1 selling point but no matter how good it might be, charging like that won’t increase attendances

The only benefit to not going to the game is not having to listen to Braith commentate or ch9's dribble. paying $50 for a ticket (when you add Ticketek charges) without dinner and all the stuff that goes with it. Isn't enough these days..So a club need to make the 12 home games like 12 different events. Until then Thurs night crowds will be average

They were rubbish but still slightly better than current Thursday nights. They also weren't 9 games so were rarely big games such as souths v dragons or eels v dogs. Brisbane had f**k all monday night home games.

Remember when everyone was saying Thursdays will be so much better than Mondays as its like the weekend starting early? That prediction didnt work out so well.

Nearly 22k, on a wet Thursday night, definitely not terrible. As said above, Sunday arvo would have been perfect, but Tv dollars pay the bills.

Actually not for the Broncos, Sponsors and fans pay the bills more than TV.

The Monday games were generally a 7pm start (from memory), which makes a difference. Last night's MCG match started at 7:20pm, even though it probably finished the same time as the Broncos game I definitely think there's a perception issue with starting any later than 7:30pm on a weeknight.

Even better, start the Thursday games at 6:30pm and make it a reasonable post-work option.

The Broncos played Wigan on a Wednesday night in 1994 in front of 54,220. It is possible to entice people out on a week night and I think the NRL should work with clubs to put a bit more effort into the Thursday night experience at the ground so it is worth going out for.

Didn't you know the NRL has been helping clubs out with improving game day experiences?
No me either!

Then everyone would be moaning that there is no way of getting from work to home and out to the game before KO! Lets be honest if you wanted to be there you would be. Lets find out why people didnt want to be there and address it. Its only once or twice a year for most clubs so hardly a massive imposition on life for fans. Some clubs/codes seem to manage Thursday nights, it just seems give most RL fans the slightest excuse not to go to game and they will take it.

10.50 or something the game finished Sydney time. From memory Monday night games finished around 9

Not everyone will go to Every game. Uni students, Shift workers...etc should be the target for these games.

True, it helps when games start on time as well and stoppages are kept to a minimum. Big Bash manages this very well, first ball of every game bowled within a minute of the posted game time.

NRL controlling the draw was meant to fix it but almost 8pm kickoff is not good to draw crowds

Should be like F1, big clock and as soon as the hand ticks over we are off!

Yes it’s totally the same thing comparing a R3 game against StG and a one off world championship game. Totally.

Yes, the Wigan game was an event game. I'm not expecting a full-house at any ground on a Thursday night, but if we put a little more effort into making it feel like an event (like Souths v Dragons and Broncos v Dragons should be) then we will see the results in terms of higher attendances.

Yeah finish work 5pm, race home to the outer burbs if a train, grab the family and drive back for kickoff ,all part of Sydney peak hour on a Thursday night.
Melbourne/Adelaide is not Sydney. The continual crowd comparison ,and non transport comparison with Sydney is laughable.Yet it keeps getting brought up.
I'd love for a train to leave from Cronulla and call at Moore Park near Sydney Boys High.It won't happen.I'm hoping Gladys will get this city moving the way decent cities operate functionally.

Fair point if you are trying to get from one end of the city and back for a Thursday night (and probably more impacting is the time it takes to get home when the game is finishing so late). However how many Dragons and Souths fans would you estimate live within a 30min drive or public transport radius of St Georges ground? If 70k AFL fans can get to MCG on a Thursday night is it such a stretch to think 20k St's and Souths fans could get to Kogarah?
Any game is going to be impacted by both the Thursday and Friday 6pm KO, its nature of beast but its by how many. In NRL it seems around 50% in most cases. Is there a way of bringing that 50% impact down to say 20%? Might be cheap tickets, might be slightly adjusting KO times, maybe something else? Or we could say we are stuck with it and except very poor crowds again I suppose.

I agree that the games finish too late but again the AFL have the same issue (their games go for far less longer) and yet their Thursday crowds don’t suffer nearly as much.

Didn’t the swans draw in the high 20K’s on a Thursday night? It’s easy to dismiss all the AFL comparisons because apparently Sydney is the hardest place in the world to get around but it doesn’t explain why we struggle compared to
The swans.

One team city. Fans based in the north and east.
The other team doesn't count here.
