2019 Crowd Watch

Fair point if you are trying to get from one end of the city and back for a Thursday night (and probably more impacting is the time it takes to get home when the game is finishing so late). However how many Dragons and Souths fans would you estimate live within a 30min drive or public transport radius of St Georges ground? If 70k AFL fans can get to MCG on a Thursday night is it such a stretch to think 20k St's and Souths fans could get to Kogarah?
Any game is going to be impacted by both the Thursday and Friday 6pm KO, its nature of beast but its by how many. In NRL it seems around 50% in most cases. Is there a way of bringing that 50% impact down to say 20%? Might be cheap tickets, might be slightly adjusting KO times, maybe something else? Or we could say we are stuck with it and except very poor crowds again I suppose.

Mate whilst you continue to compare Melbourne with their stadiums near stations in a city that is far smaller in area than Sydney, with the mish mash and ordinary stadiums in Sydney, you are whistling in the wind.
I go to Thursday nights and 6pm and much a possible,my family cannot .

I agree that the games finish too late but again the AFL have the same issue (their games go for far less longer) and yet their Thursday crowds don’t suffer nearly as much.

Didn’t the swans draw in the high 20K’s on a Thursday night? It’s easy to dismiss all the AFL comparisons because apparently Sydney is the hardest place in the world to get around but it doesn’t explain why we struggle compared to
The swans.

The Swans have the majority of their local fans that live in the eastern suburbs/southern Nth Sydney and inner west, within p*ssing distance to the SCG.they have an all seater stadium, with facilities far better than what's on offer at the SFS for starters. The majority pf their fans have little travel involvement.Hence they get better crowds on weekends.

I dismiss the Melbourne AFL to Sydney NRL comparisons. From media, to history, to stadiums, to transport.

I am fully acquainted with the Swan's crowds which are decent, but bear in mind their TV ratings here after 37 years are bleeding ordinary.IOW only the faithful attend and a stretch limo crowd watch them on TV.

Seriously mate live and work in Sydney when your team is located on the outer fringe, and draw a comparison with the transport offerings of Melbourne to Sydney.

If you are talking Brisbane Suncorp, well maybe expansion there shouldn't happen..And that is the heartland of rugby league.

Wouldn't matter if it was 160k.The reasons are well known.Try historical dominance of a code in a city ,not just a monopoly but sheer dominance(like a religion).Throw in their stadiums and transport facilities to the door, the geographical spread.
That sport crowd wise is unique up there with some of the big comps in the Nth Hemisphere.

To get some idea about the effect of new rectangular stadiums with decent facilities for all the family, perhaps the new Parra stadium will give us an indications it is close to Parra fan base.

An article posted by M_E Assassin on West Coast Pirates thread details exactly the scenario you are referring to. It's a beauty! Would recommend the doubters and the good guys to read. It's the best and most succinct explanation of differing city supporter bases and circumstances. Hope you take the time to find it.

Gee they should stop doing that on ground half time analysis with empty end stands behind Freddy. Makes the game look real unappealing. Do it in front of the fans!
This.

These f**king clowns call themselves the "home of rugby league" yet do shit in front of empty bays when there are plenty of full ones to choose from.

Give it a month and if Parra keep playing like they have they will start drawing 30k. Might even give the Broncos a shake as the highest attended team
