Eels fans holding off til the Bankwest opening it seems. That would be my only justification. It was a beautiful day so no other excuses.

I think the fanbase is just about done with ANZ now and it showed. Further, Sharks fanbase isn't huge and they don't travel (and they aren't alone there)

ANZ isn’t a home ground. Feel sorry for the fans who have to watch their teams play there each fortnight

Unless there is 60k+ in there it’s completely soulless

You couldn't pay me enough to go to ANZ. It's awful with the exception of the State of Origin and the Grand Final.

Wish they changed it to a 50,000 seat stadium, we don't need 80k.

I was there for Parra v Rooster, my friends had membership seats and I sat by myself in a general admission seat that was basically in Five Dock. It was a very lonely weepy experience.

TBF most stadiums are sht when they are 80% empty. Either get more fans in or play in smaller stadiums! If Souths and Bulldogs persist playing out of ANZ the fans should revolt!

I think 60k is the right size. Local derbies should aspire to crowds in the 50k plus range.
But yes 80k is too big and expensive.

Image Bankwest stadium with 60k capacity. Would be so awesome for state of origin.

Suncorp is the perfect size, also the new Perth Stadium is a great size

The difference this time,ANZ is a non rectangular stadium, and built for an Olympic Games(athletics;etics in particular) not rectangular sports per se.

Didn't THE AFL get the configuration changed at sometime as well to suit their needs. This resulted in a dramatic capacity reduction from 110000 to 84000. Wonder how that was achieved?

They paid a nominal figure to ensure the stadium remained in its oval format.
From what I remember, only the stand at the ends were chopped ,to their current levels.Everything else remained unchanged.
Now the State Govt has stated the stadium ,will be a rectangular ones was intended.Trouble is the SGFS gets done first.

It's interesting how most nfl stadiums are built to around 65-75 k capacity..

They could comfortably fill 120k stadiums for every game of the year but choose fan comfort and sight lines over the $$
