Reducing the capacity of the city's largest stadium is moronic. End of story.

No, its your opinion. It's a white elephant that reaches capacity twice a year. Thats value for money, especially when the time comes to develop/maintain that unused structre

Make up your mind, does it need to reach capacity or does it need to have 50-60k crowds?

And do you bother to count things like concerts and other non-sporting events that the venue is used for?

I'd also argue white elephant is a bit of a stretch, to me that term is used when something sits dormant, unused. ANZ, regardless of crowd sizes, has hosted as many as 30-40 games in a season and will still host at least 15-20 this year - and that's just NRL.

It's also worth noting that the NRL ground with the highest average crowds over the last decade is ANZ.

But facts, eh, who needs them

So keep an 80k stadium for 2 games...that is silly. The upkeep costs would far outweigh those two games. A 50 to 60k stadium is the right size.

Right so we have a 60k stadium for 2 games, what a difference.
ANZ is used for more than just NRL.
Not to mention that it doesn’t mean it’s banned for regular NRL games. Big games should still be played there, we just shouldn’t have bulldogs v titans on Thursday night in front of 6k there.

There’s no point in spending so much money downgrading the stadium so we can have 10k watch the dogs and souths and 20k less people able to go to origin and the GF.

Hank Scorpio, it was 6 times last year. There were 4 sold out concerts, also a bledisloe cup crowd of 66k. There has been one sold out concert this year already.

This is bizarre logic. The MCG routinely only gets between 30-70k for most matches but holds 100k. Should we reduce its size because it only gets filled three times a year?

50-70k is a lot more than 10-12k! That makes a fair difference.

All tickets to Bankwest this year to include Public Transport, staff to be put on to help guide people the 1.5km from the Transport Interchange to the station, and shuttle buses to run from the Interchange to Parramatta Leagues.
Awesome, I'll now be training it to Tigers games at Bankwest! Well the ones at a decent timeslot anyway!

You have no idea, have you seen how much they charge for tickets?

The average NFL ticket costs $140 Australian. That is not putting sightlines and comfort over $. The NFL is one of the most commercial sports in the world!

It's commercial yes.. but they don't build many 100k stadiums.. for NFL teams..

They have the technology to do it..

But choose to go around 75k mostly .

Hello apple meet orange..

What was the average of all afl matches at mcg last year.. ? I'll guess 48k

Anz I'll guess 17k

It looks so shit with under 25k in crowd..especially with the electric blue seats

It's actually hard to watch a 12k game at anz on TV..

So we should play all matches at small suburban venues where the Max cap for crowds is generally below 20k and never aim higher, even though clubs who play at ANZ generally have better average crowds?

Metallica and Queen will sell out. GF, Origin. I am sure other big events will be there too.

Size is fine. Configuration isn't and you'd think given the same operators run bank West and ANZ that smaller drawing games can be moved

I agree with this. I always thought it lacked foresight when the new Suncorp Stadium was built in Brisbane at a lower capacity than Brisbane's ANZ Stadium at the time (Broncos home from 1993 - 2001). ANZ (QE2) isn't used for major sporting events anymore but we essentially reduced the capacity of our city's major stadium from 57k to 52k. IMO Suncorp should have been build to hold 60k. It would fill for Origin, RU tests (maybe - lol), Socceroos matches & NRL finals plus have a larger capacity for concerts.

Great news! But is this something that doesn't / hasn't happen(ed) in Sydney previously? I remember as far back as the early 90's having public transport included in all Broncos game tickets.

This was one of the points I was trying to make but @Timmah had her panties in a knot as usual. Sydney should have an 80k stadium but it shouldn't be ANZ. The configuration will look terrible and continue to get horrible crowds for the size that it is. Keeping that size for a handful of events is a waste of money. Could they not have made Allianz bigger to be the premier stadium in Sydney? Is that not easier for Sydneysiders to get to than ANZ? Having WSS is great and makes ANZ less needed than it is now. Too many stadiums in Sydney and ANZ is not popular at all to draw the crowds it needs to justify its size.

Oh classy, using female attributes as an insult to someone. Well done. I bet you feel clever!

Your points are rambling. There's no point banging on about the SFS, it's being rebuilt at the same size, that deal is done, it's not changing now the election is done.

There is an existing stadium at SOP that should not have a reduced capacity. It needs work - whether that's a knock-down rebuild like the SFS or just a reconfiguration to make it rectangle. But reducing its capacity should be a no-go. We need an 80k stadium in that place.

As for which stadium is easier to get to - for most Sydneysiders, it's ANZ by a canter. There's a train to the door and 43253647 parking spots around the precinct, as opposed to one light rail line (is it even open yet?) and buses or walking uphill to Moore Park from Central.

For everyone arguing about a 60k stadium, 15k doesnt look great in an 80k stadium. It also doesnt look good in a 60k stadium.

At the end of the day, more needs to be done to make those 15k crowds 30k.
