The game against the Raiders will see us basically a third of the way thru the 2019 regular season and results and performances have not been good.

Very few of our players have played there best football and for the most part the younger players from whom so much has been expected they have been disappointing.

While the performance against the Bunnies was an improved performance our Achilles heel was all to evident. Despite good field position and many attacking opportunities inside our opponents 20 we simply failed to really create many try scoring opportunities.

I still believe the nucleus of a good side is there but there are at least six positions/players/areas which we need to significantly strengthen going forward into 2020 and beyond.

GIven this is not a side Ivan built rather he inherited he doesn’t have an allegiance to many of the squad and I have no doubt he is already thinking of a clear out and rebuild, not just the playing roster but the coaching roster as well.

I like James Maloney as a person, character and great player in his day but I hope he accepts a supposed lucrative contract in the UK and finishes his time with us at the end of this season if for no other reason than his contract money will be important in our rebuild and recruitment going forward. I really think the Jerome Luai - Nathan Cleary partnership is worth a try for at least one season. Jerome was very good in the NSW Cup yesterday and instrumental in our win. He is very, very talented. He is already contracted so any money freed up by releasing Jimmy can be spent in other areas.

Just fyi Souths scored a try from us in reserve grade from a bomb. It looked like Edwards' fault at first but I saw the Brian Too's head drop after it and Edwards went over and consoled him so I assume Too called for the ball.

I saw that as well. That occurred towards the end of the game.

It was hard to tell who should’ve gone for the ball but it was a terrible read from whoever made the call

We would have won that game if Maloney hadn't played the ball facing the sideline. We made enough opportunities but didn't take them.

Just a few tweeks and the squad can be up there. Given unlikely to make a dent this year quicker it starts the better

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/2017_Penrith_Panthers_season

We were 2 & 7 in the 2017 season, we got this, we just gotta believe .

Interestingly, look at our first 2 wins of 2017 :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

C’mon Panther fans - believe !!!!
We arent that bad yet. But our roster isnt capable of the same peaks as 2017 IMO.

We need to bank a few wins heading into the Origin series and hope to god Jimmy and Nathan aren't picked. Might be able to make up ground that way.

I cant see it happening though. We dont have Moylan, Peachey or Carty magic to grab wins at the death. Its basically all on Kikau now.

That is the thing. We go on a win streak then the halves get picked for Origin. Or we lose and can't make up the ground. Throw in a few tricky games and that is the issue

Sad to hear that TMM is gone for an indefinite time with a brain bleed.

I really like the kid.

Sad for TMM. Could be an interesting development given Dylan Edwards situation and rumours he may not be in Ivan’s plans for the future. NQ could potentially be interested?
