After all the initial controversy surrounding the return of Ivan Cleary, the loss of Peachy and Merrin, our pre season has largely been a positive one and we were largely united in looking forward to the new season with optimism.

This whole sex tape business is such an unwanted distraction and disappointment and while you can discount the long term effect it does have the potential to derail our start to the season.

I was so looking forward to our three trial games tomorrow against the Eels and it has now been high jacked by this ridiculous situation.

I haven’t seen the videos and haven’t had the inclination to find them to watch them but regardless of what they show or don’t we didn’t need it. I don’t care about whether it is or isn’t a good look for the NRL I just care about the potential to impact on our start to season 2019 so on that basis I am pissed off.

I doub it'll be an issue for our season unless it's someone like Maloney or Cleary. Most people we can cover. Especially fringe guys like May.

No doubt it is him. I just mean if we drop him. Egan is fine but need Cartwright or Fuimaono then also to cover a back going down injured

True. Might need some utility value. I guess it depends on what Ivan wants. People suggested he wanted 1 hooker so clearly wanted the bench space for something.

He did say that. Ideally that is a good bench balance injuries and suspension will determine that I guess

Lol, a leadership group. Absolute joke.

Nathan Cleary's view on the leadership group and their roles, especially for him and DWZ. I think who Ivan has chosen in the leadership group will work well, and hopefully young clean skins like Cleary and DWZ can help pull the heads in of the young and stupid players like May.

https://www.nrl.com/news/2019/03/03...an-cleary-combine-for-first-time-in-15-years/

While James Maloney talked, repeatedly, with the officials throughout the loss to Parramatta, Cleary is one of six skippers Penrith will call on throughout the season.

He joins Maloney, Isaah Yeo, Dallin Watene-Zelezniak, James Tamou and Josh Mansour in the club's leadership group, with the expectation being that he is well placed to interact with younger Panthers teammates.

"Dad kind of spoke about it with me and brought it up out of the blue, Cleary said.

"I was obviously pretty pumped about it and honoured to be listed in that group.

"He gave me reasons for why everyone was in the group and it made a lot of sense, and we were happy to roll with that.

"I think the main idea is there is a bit of youth with me and Dal, and we connect with different parts of the group better than certain people.

"The fact there's not really a standout captain at the moment allows us as group to come together and work on different decisions and what not and we all have a different role in that leadership group.

"I think being the halfback of a team I've got a bit of leadership in that anyway so it's important that I’m a leader in this team and I need to be as a halfback".

So from reading this we will have 6 different captains this year.

If so, I stand by my original judgement.

I took the bit about one of six captains Penrith will call on throughout the season, to mean through injury, state of origin etc.

So hopefully if Maloney is playing, it will be like it was in the trials with him as game day captain.

You could be right,

But

It says will call upon

Not can call upon. This looks like the Tigers models to me.

The only mention of captains is not a quote from anyone.

All quotes refer to the leadership group still. Although until we officially name a captain(s) its open to interpretation.

Sounds weird though. Should have a captain by now

The same Coleman that was charged earlier this year? I think he was up to no good with Zane Musgrove?

Ok it was a case of mistaken identity. Its actually Waqa Blake. Not Liam Coleman. Get those two confused all the time

So your saying Blake is one of the people in the video ?
No hes 100% definitely not. It was a joke about the South Sydney boys referring to Liam Coleman as Waqa Blake last week due to him wearing a #3 jersey.

The guys couldnt look anymore different from height, skin colour, hair etc. Yet it took them a bit to notice it was a tiny white guy and not a fijian god.

I know it’s not a quote, but reporters don’t include quotes on every detail in their stories. They ask background questions & publish the best quotes.
