RCG should be sending Griffin a Christmas card rather than slagging him off. Not sure too many other coaches would of left him starting prop or even in the 17 given his last couple of months of footy.

He was one of the ones I was referring too before as maybe not being as safe as they seem.

Some interesting stats from nrl.com, highlighting why the Panthers were the come back kings last season.

Across the regular season, Penrith conceded 25 tries in the opening 20 minutes of games. Which was the 2nd worst in the competition. But only conceded 13 tries in the final 20 minutes, which was the best in the competition.

Shows why they had to come from behind to win 10 of their 15 wins last season.

Interestingly, Cleary had the exact opposite record last season with the Tigers. They conceded only nine tries in the first 20, the best in the competition. However they conceded 32 tries in the final 20.

Let’s hope Cleary can fix their slow starts, while at the same time maintaining their fitness under fatigue so they can keep defending strong in the last quarter of games.

Will be interesting to see what the new high performance and fitness coaches have achieved this offseason. The players fitness under Hook was his only real positive during his time at the Panthers.

A lot of our bad starts I put down to the players. A stronger defence line will help it regardless. Hopefully injuries are better so Ivan can axe guys if the same keeps happening

So how does that explain falling 18-0 behind in both semis after he was gone? Not to mention that shocking 1st half in Auckland?

If only it were that simple. No-one, not Hook, not Gus, not Ciraldo, or anyone else, could put their finger on this side's poor starts. It's been going on for two seasons and then some now. Sign a coach with the complete opposite problem is one way of dealing with it I suppose.

We aren't talking about losing games due to playing well and tactics letting down. There is no way Gus' game plan was drop the ball, concede penalties until we are 18-0 down. Then follow this and we win.

Playing wise Dallin to FB was the only change. Yet the same issues. A 3rd coach now if the same thing keeps happening then time to do something major to the playing 17

The Warriors semi was won 27-12. They did score all 12 of their points before we were able to trouble the scorer though.

Ah my mistake. Point still remains that wouldn't be the game plan. Maybe you can say they stopped listening to hook. So why the same dumb errors once he was gone.

Everyone still in the squad that played in the back end of the year should be under pressure to start the year well

I think that's an accurate summation of both coaches.

In regards to fitness, it's a pity we let go of Hooks fitness staff as well as Hook though. Not sure if they didn't want to stay after he got the sack, or if they were just casualties of the coaching clean out.

Cleary showed last year, even though he had a weak squad, that he was willing to drop players to reserve grade. So I can see him doing the same this season if there are players not showing the right discipline and attitude that he expects of them.
