Legit question - NRL jerseys retail for ~$160 due to the sponsorship logos and such attached to them. Can Cronulla feasibly charge that price for a jersey that is without sponsor, when as the joke goes, best and Less have that same sponsor-less option for sale as alternatives?

If Sharks can't find a sponsor, they could pull a CSFC like they did in 2013/14?

I think your assertion that the jersey price is influenced by the sponsor logos is incorrect.

Probably should have got him to wear a polo for the photo.

Maybe they wanted to emphasise the lack of sponsor to let companies know the space is for sale?
That would violate the original joint-venture agreement.
LOL good joke

This whole “the dragons should change to a Steelers jersey” thing is a reoccurring theme in this forum, and yet no ex-Steelers are ever the ones requesting it. Steelers 16 years existence (in multiple different versions of Scarlett jerseys), St George Illawarra 19 years of the same red V. The red V has represented the Illawarra way more than any Scarlett jersey ever did.

It’s not the sponsor logos exactly, it’s the liscencing fees

They're membership partner from what I can see.

Your logic is undone by the Storm's training gear having a bunch of different companies on it anyway.
That's true but they have been a membership partner for a while now.

And no, my logic is not undone by the Storm's training gear, they have most of their sponsors on their gear, Souths do not. In recent times, we have tended to only have our main sponsors on the off field gear and I don't think 2019 will be any different. That's not to say it definitely won't be different but I don't expect it to be and I think P&O are now one of our primary sponsors. Still speculation at this stage though, I guess time will tell haha.

On that note, I wonder why us and the Storm are taking so long to release actual playing jerseys, all other ISC teams have released stuff. In fact, I think we may be the only two clubs left that are still yet to release an actual playing kit for 2019. I'm growing impatient lol!!

i remember there was an off season when Easts struggled to find a major sponsor (eventually Steggles stepped up :) ), so our jerseys during the offseason had ROOSTERMANIA where the main sponsor would have been. If the Sharks can't find a major sponsor then maybe they could get ROOSTERMANIA onto their jerseys too?

We’ll be right.
We managed to get a sponsor when we were gang banging, peptide injecting, cancer causing wooden spooners.

Now with a smoking hot team and a bunch of FTA games locked in and a premiership we’ll be fine.

Was chatting to a contact at ISC and he said that Souths are still waiting on major sponsors - which means that they (ISC) haven’t been able to produce jerseys or much off-field gear for sale over the Xmas period.

Yea that's true but the fact that it's on all the off field gear and the position it is in on all that gear suggests they are a main sponsor of ours now.

The NRL logo outside the NRL/QRL building on Castlemaine St, is showing the old southern cross NRL logo, not the new darker green logo. Is this the same in Sydney and any other NRL buildings?

They retail for that much because the NRL charge an extortionate amount for licensing of logos and colours. Why else would an Xblades/ISC/CCC etc AFL guernsey cost $110 but an NRL jersey by the same cost $160? I was told that the NRL raised the fees again in 2019 which would’ve bumped retail cost up to close to $190, but the clubs and the manufacturers agreed to take a smaller cut to keep the prices as they are.

2017 nrl received $13.8mill in Merch royalties. This was $900k down on the 2016 revenue from this source.

Parra had "OPPORTUNITY" on the front of the jerseys when James Hardie wasn't sponsor anymore.
