It would be a pretty good spine:

1. Tom T
6. Gutho
7. DCE
9. Api / Fainu

Plus you have a quality 80min middle forward in Jake T and an impact attacking forward in Taupau. It's a pretty good way to spend the big dollars of your cap IMO.

So your issue is you don't think he's a good 5/8. Fair enough. With such quality in the spine I think he would do a decent job at 6. Api is not a bad kicker either which would take some pressure off DCE. If they can all fit under the salary cap it doesn't matter who is getting paid what. I f**ken hate Manly butI would love to have those kind of players in the spine.

They'll have to find even shittier players than they already have stinking up their three-quarter line and take the same approach to the pack as well.

They are also doing it with Dylan Walker on the sidelines but still paying him Gutho type money. I don't see how adding Gutho and punting Walker (who isn't even playing) on similar coin makes them any worse.

Barrett was coaching in 2018 and I don't think he will be back in 2020 when Gutho gets there. Hasler has got the team playing better and I am sure they will finish higher than what Barrett did. Surely you can see that? Hasler will be there next year too

Their three quarter line is probably only superior to the Dogs even wiith Walker. And even then it's a stretch.

Sure, they might punt Walker. They almost certainly won't re-sign him, but he's not on 750k. So they're paying more for Gutho already, which hardly improves their roster remarkably (although Walker is an appalling defender).

They have seventeen players off contract...and they're reducing the available money even further because the players making it tight are still all signed up.

Spending more money to replace one player in a side that's already struggling to put decent players around overpaid players is hardly going to improve that roster is it?

And those same merkins finished 15th last year. Seven games isn't a good sample, which is why we're not throwing huge money at Gutherson after half a dozen good games.

They won 14 games under Barrett in 2017. He overachieved with that squad full of reserve graders.
