One sided reffing can really ruin games. Fortunately Manly managed to overcome that and we got the right result.

The way he makes post-contact meters and keeps the defence rolling backwards is key to getting the whole team on the front foot... hopefully Pillows Paseka realises he’s actually a big unit next week ffs :joy:

He needs a Keiran Foran to awaken his inner T-Rex.

18 nil down, coming from a short turnaround after losing a couple of players through the week and one of their best during the game. Could have easily given up like Broncos did last week
Manly won the penalty count 12-2.

Surely Des is searching the league for another hooker to bring in midseason. They won't get anywhere with that derro levi.

I'd even throw walker at hooker and pair dce with croker. There's no way that would be worse and would also stop walker having a brain explosion on the last tackle

Penalty counts like this are a Klein trademark. I don't know how he gets away with it.

Merely brought the refereeing style which characterised his time in England where he was always frustrating to watch.

Hell, I'd even give Max Krilich or Ray Brown a shout !

Pretty much what you'd expect when playing a team with Matt Lodge in it.
Let's reiterate that. 12 penalties in a row and 8 of those in the second half to Manly on the back of a dodgy video ref call to deny a second try to Boyd. Obviously some of those penalties were warranted but Klein did everything except take that last kick at goal to get Manly the win.

The big take away from this is that Darius Zimmer frame Boyd crossed the Manly line twice which virtually rules them out of being a premiership threat.

I agree on the DCE milking no try being a dud decision - but the bunker made that call. Which of the second half penalties were incorrect? Maybe you are referring to the one where Staggs tackled Turbo, is lying in the ruck and then stupidly just rolls onto the ball when he plays it? Or maybe the one where Lodge smacks three blokes across the chops in consecutive tackles? Or maybe the one where Klein calls held and the the ball is stripped - unlucky but still a penalty?

Manly had all the ball in the second half and Brisbane was fatigued and made some really dumb errors.

The Broncos were somewhat dudded.

Their discipline in the 2nd half was atrocious; but not to the tune of a 12 & 0 run on penalties.

Also Darius was robbed of a 2nd try which would have made it 24 nil and game over.

That being said, I feel as though it shouldn't sugarcoat the Broncos' shortcomings. The lack of leadership and the ineptitude of the halves during that second half were there for all to see.

This is a poorly coached footy team, and an even more poorly selected footy team.

Broncos were off the line early about 80 percent of the time in the first half I thought they were lucky not to get pinged a few times for that. The stripping penalty was rough. The no try was fine imo. DCE is sliding across and the decoy runs into him, DCE milked it but it was still an obstruction.

Broncos also had about 10 set restarts which are left off the penalties count.

They had 3 in one set that marched them down the other end when it was 20-18.

And they utilised them by adopting the great NSW Gallen-Greg Bird tactics of hit ups from flat footed, pirouetting forwards on the 4th and 5th tackles.

Ingenious. This should be the takeway from the game for Brisbane if they want to get better, not the performance of Klein.

P.S. are we starting to see why Bellmay was happy to release Croft? Was the Harvard grad ever going to get one over Bellyache on the player recruitment front? Not likely.
