Rabbitohs extend contracts of Bayley Sironen and Steven Marsters: https://www.rabbitohs.com.au/news/2...tracts-of-bayley-sironen-and-steven-marsters/

Absolutely fantastic news to come home to!! Really stoked with this news about both players, Sirro in particular. I thought he was a real chance to leave and I really wanted to keep him so this is awesome news. A great sign for the club too, Sirro could have quite easily left but he's obviously chosen to stay because he thinks we're in a good position and he loves the club, that's so good.

It's also smart from Souths to sign the one year extension for now because it's low risk. Both are quality players, however, to be fari, they are still young so if something unforeseen happens, it's not hard to go in a different direction. Hope that's not the case though, I'd love both to have a long and prosperous career in the Red and Green. Great news!!
Thought Siro had a few really good runs against the Chooks

Curtis Sironen's contract ends next season too. It's been mentioned that Bayley wants to play with Curtis, could we see Souths go after him? There's definitely a spot for him.

I hope Marsters gets a real crack at the best 17 next season. I would happily see him play in the place of Roberts.

1 Latrell
2 AJ
3 Graham
4 Marsters
5 Gagai

That's a deadly backline imo.

It also gives the front office a chance to lock them in long term if they take off, with about $3mil coming off the books after next season, but low risk because they aren't committing the money way in advance leaving little flexibility.

Yeah looks real good.
I still have hope the Jet will make a big impact, I know his D is not great, and he needs to work a lot on that, but speed kills.

Does anyone think Corey Allen could make a good 5/8? Maybe as Cody's replacement when he finishes up?
I definately think corey is worth holding onto, he has talent,if he was faster he would be great.
I believe he could do with a 5kg weight reduction, he has a paunch which may be hindering him

With the right coaching and halves partner, sure. There is a lot of (peak) Darius Boyd about his game who i always felt could've made a decent 6 earlier in his career.

I feel he's built solid. He's actually 5kg lighter than AJ according to NRL.com and 1cm taller.
He can get quicker with the right sprint coaching like Premier League's Harry Kane has had over the course of his career. The guy who worked with Cook could get more pace out of Allan.

I've never been a fan of his to be honest. I know he has elite speed and it's exciting on the rare occasion he has space to take advantage of it but that's it. Without it he's reserve grade at best imo. He'd be more of an asset on a wing imo but even then i would pick Gagai and AJ ahead of him.

Hi Trav
That sprint coach is Roger Fabri (he's a long time mate of my brother and I)

From a guy on another forum who works for the club,

"I've heard Mago is out and Amone has been given a train and trial contract. You'd assume Rodwell stays on and Dillon is offloaded.

Just curious to see what happens with Jack Johns. I believe he's the last of our first graders that isn't signed up."

Also, from the Daily Telegraph,

Wayne Bennett in bust-up with Shane Richardson over Cody Walker contract

It’s hard to believe Cody Walker hasn’t always been a priority player at South Sydney.

Not in the eyes of the club’s former general manager of football Shane Richardson.

Less than a year ago Richardson threatened to withdraw a contract offer to the superstar five-eighth and even earmarked Adam Doueihi as the club’s long-term No. 6.

“We have made a more than fair and reasonable offer to Cody,” Richardson said at the time. “If he has decided that is not good enough that is his decision.

“I respect that but we will just have to take the money and spend it elsewhere.”

This was all happening while Wayne Bennett was out of town with the English rugby league team.

Fortunately Bennett got back to Redfern in time to sort it out.
Walker signed his contract extension and Doueihi left for the Wests Tigers when Latrell Mitchell came on board.

Bennett and Richardson had a falling out over the issue and were barely speaking when the veteran official left the club with a $500,000 golden handshake in March.

Walker’s form this year has been simply stunning.

He produced a perfect 10 performance opposite Luke Keary on Friday night for the Rabbitohs and will go into the finals as the most feared player in the competition.

Hmm, very interesting story. I suppose it illustrates that each of the two (Bennett and Richo) can make great moves, but can also make mistakes.

No news on suualli, must mean he isnt signing, we cant sit on 600k waiting while players are being snapped up else were
Bennett said "at the moment" the deal was over and he wasn't coming here.
Maybe used some of that money to keep AJ, Siro, and Marsters.
The Fox might just still be in the frame but it won't be fullback, and we would have to give up someone in return - unlikely but who knows

I really hope we keep Rodwell, still very young and without lower grades didn’t get a chance to develop but all signs point to him becoming the same type of player as Rudolf (who we should’ve kept)
Mago deserves another year but if he is let go I won’t lose sleep, I rate him higher than Amone. He just doesn’t seem like a smart footballer sorry.

According to reports he wanted a clause that gave him the option of leaving at any time after 2 years into a 5 year deal. That makes things difficult for the club in its planning, members and fans.

I suppose he will end up a journeyman.

Desperate clubs like us will sign him short term to bolster finals chances.

A matter for him but he won’t have the benefits of place when his career is over.

Rugby league is about relationships and shared experiences. These are life long benefits, the giving once the party is over.

The fans who went to the Souths v roosters game have a bond even if they never meet.
