Souths lock in Cody Walker on two-year deal — and now set their sights on Latrell Mitchell: https://www.foxsports.com.au/nrl/nr...s/news-story/870ddc7cb923cbad11c297d7d43b2abb

Yipeee!! Absolutely fantastic news! Has made my day! Can't wait for an official announcement tomorrow. You have to commend the club, they've played this perfectly. All along Souths said we weren't going to pay $800k and that stance never left. Looks like it's all paid off and we've re-signed him at a great price so well done to the club.

Also well done to Cody for staying loyal and not being driven by money. He has the opportunity to be a one club player and a Souths legend now. This is his home!

On another note, I thought I'd be against AJ leaving and that if that were to happen, it'd make me sad but I'm not gonna lie, I actually can't see an issue with it. If it allows us to sign Latrell then I'm all for it!!

I also still hold out hope that we can get Arrow for 2020 but that seems to be getting increasingly unlikely. I'll be happy with 2021, will just have to wait but 2020 would be a thousand times better! Anyone have news on the Arrow situation?

Souths rumoured to be getting on to TPA’s in regards to Latrell and that Rusty and Packer have told the board in front of Richo (stressed the need for us to get Latrell as a key part of our quest for 22).
Sounds promising. Did you read this in an article somewhere?

Mate you’ll find AJ is ok at fullback will be solid, however his weaknesses are he doesn’t make enough metres and he’s afraid o of contact at times in defence and bringing the ball out of trouble, also his support play is close to non existent.

If you’re looking for a fine finisher and all with pace for your wing AJ is your guy, imo he’s a good winger but average fullback.

So who’ve you got so far besides Luciano?

If Souths somehow released Gagai we could get Addo Carr, however I think the favs to get him 21 onwards would be you guys.

Not so busy until the dust settles in Tigerland. We have Madge over in the uk on scout and signing duties at the moment. Who knows what he will bring back?!

I think he’s enjoying squad building, less pressure. 8th and above is considered a good season. Bennett eats pressure for every meal!

We’d probably use aj on the wing at the moment. Cory is ok but under utilised. Not seen enough. Jennings had a tough 2019.

We’ve signed stephano for general duties but the eels won’t release him.

Momorovskis on the up for sure. He’s a gun this kid.

The forwards are ok, but we lack energised and high profile backs. Need a kicker too.

Mbye is a great player, we just need him on more often.

Brooks is a fair half.

Grubs been arrested!

Seems kinda promising in some ways and kinda not, I’m sure Madge is doing his best behind the scenes, he works tirelessly in the background (well he did at Souths).

Mate how do you see Souths going next season?

Souths should be top 4, it depends on the compensation efforts the forwards need to make post Burgii. Sam was unbelievable. Once in a generation player. If they can adjust, they will play well. Probably a faster style!

That Murray is a freak, not as powerful but much more skill than Sam. He’s very clever too.

Your backs are seriously agile. I like the jet best. He didn’t really warm up last season lol.

From the Daily Telegraph,

Cody Walker has finally re-signed at South Sydney — now for Latrell Mitchell

After months of debate and negotiations, the Rabbitohs have retained five-eighth Walker on a new two-year deal worth about $1.3 million.

Walker’s decision to re-sign shouldn’t be an indication Souths cannot now afford to secure Mitchell.

Souths have the money for Mitchell — and many in rugby league say the desire.

The Rabbitohs are chasing Gold Coast prop Jai Arrow — but for 2021, not next season.

Souths have a $1 million in their 2020 cap through Sam Burgess’ retirement money — for Walker and possibly Mitchell.

There is even speculation Souths may look to sign Mitchell to a one-year deal for next season with a promise to review his contract status as the year progresses.

During the 2020 season, Souths could move players to free up the required money to nail down Mitchell long term.

Wests Tigers are still interested in Mitchell but rival clubs are convinced the star player will sign with Souths, despite the Rabbitohs’ insistence they aren’t interested.

It appears, despite a $1 million a season offer, Mitchell doesn’t have plans to sign with Wests Tigers.

It was initially suggested the Sydney Roosters would be highly reluctant to allow Mitchell to join their bitter rivals, South Sydney.

The Roosters though want Mitchell off their books and have softened their stance against him joining Souths. Walker and Souths teammate James Roberts are close mates with Mitchell.

Walker remains a front-line candidate to captain the Rabbitohs next season although The Sunday Telegraph reported halfback Adam Reynolds was favourite.

South Sydney are expected to formally announce Walker’s retention some time on Wednesday.

Walker, 29, has been talking with Souths for several months before finally agreeing to terms late Tuesday.

With Walker now locked down, Mitchell can start to seriously think about South Sydney.

A NSW Origin player this year, Walker was under contact for 2020 but had tested the open market with Gold Coast rumoured to have been interested.

Souths coach Wayne Bennett said in early December he expected Walker to remain at Redfern.

“Cody isn’t going anywhere – he will stay at Souths,” Bennett said. “We just have to do a deal and the deal is close to being done. We won’t lose a bloke like Cody Walker.”

With Walker now signed, Souths can also focus on luring Arrow to Sydney. Off contract at Robina after next season, Arrow has decided to test his value on the open market.

Sources claim Arrow – touted a future Queensland State of Origin skipper – is torn between staying loyal to the Titans or accepting a larger offer from Souths.

I have us between 5th-8th as of right now, I’m just a bit worried about our forwards and lack of depth, we lost 5 and signed 0, also if Murray or Cook go down it would be trouble.

Yes, clubs would expect to lose 3 or 4 regular players thru injury. But you have feisty backs to provide some comfort if you lose a few big guys.

Lowe had an amazing season. Came from nowhere. To have that capacity with unfancied players is a big deal.

Must’ve been @CliveC lol, you were fed up of no signings news, well now we got some awesome news mate and for what’s he worth too, 650k imo is a fair deal all around, well played Richo and all.
Yep R20 I knew Richo reads this site and I would put a rocket up him with my complaints( though tongue in cheek)
Now Cody has cleared the way for the superstar to sign up!
All part of a master plan! Heheheh.

‘Subtle inquiries’ made over Origin star Dane Gagai as South Sydney turn attention to luring Latrell: https://www.foxsports.com.au/nrl/nr...l/news-story/c18307012183c32acf7ffd27218e065f

So the talk is that we can fit Mitchell in under the cap for 2020 but because of other potential signings in the future, we may not be able to fit everyone in for 2021 unless we let some players go.

In my opinion, it makes complete sense to try and move on someone like Gags or AJ. Probably Gagai would be best as he's getting paid more and no offense to him but he really hasn't lived up to his own hype at this club so far. If we have to move him on to sign others, so be it.

Well there has been some rumours I have heard today that Arrow really wants to come to Souths for 2020, who knows what’s happening lol!
The roosters at the beginning of the latrell saga were hard ball they wouldnt release him to us under any circumstance, as time went on their attitude changed now they cant wait to shift him, and they may even throw some money in.
Arrow, the titans have put it out they have no intention of releasing Arrow for 2020, this is to try to influence and delay his decision, but if he signs they will shift him asap so they can clear cap space, im confident their stance will change, though ours didnt with crighton.
What im worried about is are they building a chest to pinch another of our players,eg Murray

Hope you’re right mate, another rumour around today is AJ on a 3 yr deal to the Tigers, also we are looking to move Gagai on is the talk around.

I’d be happy with AJ and Gagai out for Latrell and Addo Carr in.

Still I wouldn’t be surprised if 21 onwards Addo Carr goes to Wests, still I think we are in with a chance though.
