So now that kapewell is official how does that effect the roster?
Hopefully strengthens our reserve grade pack. I think he has reached his potential while I rate a few of our younger guys as having a much higher ceiling. Capewell has experience. But picking him for that just denies the player missing out a chance to get more experience. I wouldnt drop any of these for him.

8. JFH
9. Korisau
10. Tamou
11. Martin
12. Kikau
13. Yeo

14. Burns
15. Leniu
16. Leota
17. Kenny / Burton / Luai

I would have Capewell as the next guy picked. Ahead of Jed Cartwright, Kaide Ellis and Jack Hetherington. But only because he has been reliable for the most par while those guys havent yet proven they can be.

Shaun Blore if he returns from injury successfully could potentially jump him too. Although an ACL injury is huge. I doubt he's back to peak form and fitness in 2020.

Call it bias regarding Burns and Martin. But I honestly think they will offer more in 2020 than Capewell will. He's not a bad player or bad signing. I just dont see him improving us. Of all positions to sign, second row was the least of our concerns.

We’ve got second rowers coming out our arse. Let’s be honest here.

Meanwhile our centre options are atrocious.

Only 2 seasons is the good part of the signing.

I am betting he starts, pushing Martin to the bench and Burns out of the squad unless one of them plays centre.

Regarding this Burton/Luai debate, can we all agree now that Maloney ended up being a waste of time? All he ended up doing is holding back the development of Luai and perhaps due to his 'seniority' and clashing play style, also held Cleary back a little as well.
No, we can't "all agree now". How can one player hold another back? Cleary had the ball more times than Maloney. Luai was given chances from the bench. What happens next is up to them and if the fact Maloney is on the field puts them off, then they are really going to struggle to be successful because they are too mentally fragile. For the record, I don't think either of them are.

Pearce and Townsend had no problems being good players when Maloney was in the team. Same for his counterparts in SOO. There are no excuses, they just weren't that good last year. It happens. Hopefully, we can look forward to their improvement in 2020 and it'll be nothing to do with the missing Maloney.

If we hadn’t of had Maloney the past two seasons would’ve been terrible. When Cleary was out injured or in SOO, Maloney stepped up and took control. We had an 8-2 record with him at the helm.

Once Moylan wanted out, Gus absolutely had to get something in return for him. We’d already just lost several players and he could risk running a team with Cleary at 7 and another rookie at 6,

Sure, it didn’t work out as well as we’d hoped, but it was the only play with Nathan a 19/20yo halfback (at the time)

The problem I think was not giving Maloney full control.

Kinda sucks if Martin is on the bench. I thought he showed a heap of promise as an attacking runner.
Just my guess and I have been wrong plenty of times.
We may be able to find a good rotation to give Kiks a bit of a spell using Martin off the bench though. He could provide a lot of impact.

Martin while he showed glimpses fell away too during games. Playing him 50-60 mins while he gets used to FG is a good thing. Same too with Kikau could do with not playing a full game

The Capewell signing is plain dumb. The only position we are overstocked in is the 2nd row, and we just signed a 2nd rower, and not some outstanding game breaking one either (like Wade Graham).

More than any other position we need a strike centre and could also do with a bash and barge type of prop.

I agree to a point but we are not aware if they are chasing an other outside back. Zac Lomax would be good but I cant see Saints letting him go. Hoppoate would be good but Bulldogs wont let him go

I think our 3 recruits (assuming Tetevano happens) all make our 17 for round 1. And despite all the arguments we'll see a pretty straight forward 17 named:

1. Edwards
2. Mansour
3. Whare
4. Crichton/Naden
5. To'o
6. Luai
7. Cleary
8. Tamou
9. Koroisau
10. JFH
11. Kikau
12. Capewell
13. Yeo

14. Kenny
15. Burns/Martin
16. Tetevano*
17. Leota

I'm not ready to give up on Whare yet. He's had injuries the last 3 years (2017 broken jaw, 2018 broken arm, 2019 hamstring) - will be 30 next season so still 2-3 good seasons left in him yet.

Capewell is better than Martin or Burns at this stage leaving them to fight out the last bench spot. I'd have Burns in front of Martin as I see Martin as more of a middle (the other 3 subs are also middles) and I think Burns could be a "super-sub" type.

I wouldn't want any forward (including Koroisau) playing more than 60 minutes in the early rounds, so Kenny gets a spot.

We have our strike centre in Crichton... just got to wait for him to develop
We have to hope he actually does develop.

I remember thinking his brother could replace sauce for far cheaper. He came in labelled as the Samoan sauce. Yet even a busted out of sorts Mansour ended up being better than him.

Stephen could go either way. I was surprised at how little strike he showed in his few opportunities. Not that he did anything that bad either. I just expected to see more flashes of brilliance and after his dud brother I feel more inclined to wait til he proves himself than I normally would.

A couple of things now. He has had the academy all his career and under Gus and hook he’d be the starting centre right now that I think doesn’t allow them to develop as well as they could

That looks like a good solid Ivan 17. Looks better then we put on the field this year. Not sure it gets top 4 but just getting to the finals and building up the following season should be the aim
