2020 Top 30

What you're trying to lump players nowhere near first grade in with our losses under Gus? Top 25/30 gains and losses are whatwe are judging Ivan on and he has doubled the turnover Gus had.

We lost 4 guys from our semi side in 2018. Brought in kids and reserve graders. So the losses outweighed the gains regardless of the numbers.

Aside from Blake no one we lost would be top 13

You don't Brandy could say come here and I can get you in Origin?

How many players off contract are offered on inflated prices? I see that as the issue. Corey Oates is the Son in law of a board member and still not offically signed. Similar story for Walker, Glenn etc.

Once player managers realise they aren't worth so much then I think the signings will flow

Maybe. Just not as convincing as Gus doing his culture/big picture talk. I know he was never going to stay forever but I think in that area we have a big void.

I know we are going to sign someone. We have little choice considering we've let 13 players go. I question the rudderless strategy (or so it appears, maybe Dave's Mate has been plotting with Latrell all along...).

DWZ and Blake would both be top 13 ffs... and our backline would actually be good.

You also keep trying to suggest thekids and reserve graders are better than who we lost.

We had an NRL quality top 17 before Ivan dismantled it.

Our top 30 (previously top 25) are the only gains and losses that truly matter to our NRL team.

Even a complete rebuild doesn't usually shed half the top squad in 12 months. I thought our turnover was high under Gus... Ivan has gone and f**king doubled it.

We lost 13 top squad players in 16, 12 or 13 in 17 so you are just wrong Mx.

Paying ~10% of our cap to players at other clubs has us better positioned?

Losing our 2 best backs from the past few seasons, while still (atm) having our 2 worst backs on the books has us better positioned?

Theres no one available that is even as good as those we lost... and certainly no one better available. In what universe are we better positioned with an inferior squad and infeeior players as the only options? Worse still Ivan needs to pay overs to attract players. Without Gus we arent getting any big names short of blowing every other bid out the water. Else the best we can hope for is scraps.

Using the figures mention about RCG. $900k gives us $1.8m to play with in a few years. Timed to fit when Leinu, Burton and Crichton is off contract. I would rather have the option to re-sign them than keep an under performing RCG for all that time

And under that 17? Our backup centres were Jed and Fuimaono.

In some cases yes but until the squad is complete we won't know.

Crichton is a better centre then Jed or Fuimaono. Burns is a better player then Winterstein

Ill just add part of Goulds plan was for our losses to eventually be mostly(he mentioned 80 percent a lot) replaced intenrally such as Too taking Dallins spot, Luai or Burton taking Maloneys spot and guys like Martin, Burns coming through is the perfect example of what he envisioned. Its why they spent so much on the juniors.

Yes that's right. Is that 80% target still the plan?

Luai/Burton can't replace Maloney. I don't think N.Cleary can either. 2020 is a new brand/style for Penrith.

I like Burns and I like Martin. Though I think the latter is fairly limited.

I think our biggest success story will be Leinu. He has a lot of great touches to his game that RCG was missing. Good hands, fast PTB. He will change our attack as much as anyone.

I was against signing both Fuimaono and Winterstein. Preferring 9ur juniors to other teams discards everytime.

Yet other teams discards are all we will get now.

Honest question... does anyone here believe we're making the top 8 in 2020?

Nope.

Start a thread with a poll. Though I'd like to see the result before/after we make our off season signings. Everyone will get just a little more optimistic.

The tigers were a basket case in the front office and on the field for years before Ivans arrival. They had fans protesting, Mick Potter being forced out by players, then Jason Taylor, they had Marina Go in the front office. It was a circus, but yeah its all on Ivan.

Your comments seem irrational. Only once in the last 4 seasons have we lost less than 13 players FTR.

Mx Youe comments are beginning to sound like Python 'and what have the Romans ever done for us'. :D

Nothing wrong with discards short term. The Flegg guys will be stars just not yet.

If we get guys like Josh Morris etc then we can

Joseph Manu maybe, and turbo bros still off contract, maybe Moylan might wanna come home, reports seem like tigers want him, and shark don't, and he isn't wanting to leave there, but with no hook or gus, maybe matty moylan gives us a fullback spark under ivan,
Im happy with the guys that got let go, i feel they were terrible in the first 10 rounds. except for winterstien he had great defensive mindset and with his first 20-25min stints we had most of our wins from not giving up starts like we did the previous 2 years, would be nice to get Peach back, and merrin tho i hear he is wanting to come home, but no clubs are wanting, he would be great for a back up or reserve grade stalwart.
Anyways if we get a fit JFH paired with a firing JWH i think we have a top 4 team, with the rest of our current squad.
Had we won a few more of this years games in that first 10 rounds, we'd have easily been playing finals.

2019 became a rebuilding year.
2020 is clearly going to be one aswell.

If we get short term discards our rebuild goes into 2021 aswell. We have enormous holes in our roster and there's no one available to fix them... and some of those holes were created or got worse in 2019 because we let go of players that created those holes.

We are 2 established backs short of a backline. Either a centre and a winger or 2 centres depending on whether Naden shifts to wing. Crichton potentially could be one. Although we still lack experience and sadly Mansour and Whare are liabilities that offer little to rely on their experience.

Its a step backwards in the backline when it could have been a giant step forward. I dont see anyone available to fix the issues either. The few names thrown up have all opted to stay where they are... and arguably at best bring us back to where we were before Ivan arrived. Short of a miracle we are not going to be ahead of where we were before 2021 if we are lucky IMO.

I cant see us making the top 8 in 2020 considering the dismantling done.

3x consecutive top 8s were not good enough. Yet the fix to that looks set to be missing the top 8 back to back.

Still not panic stations yet imo. This is where the real trade period begins. A big move like Moylan's will likely set a bunch of other dominos falling.

I think Marto will develop into a fan favourite like JFH, he is a future rep player for mine.

Completely agree.

So far his issues have been consistency and handling. Consistency is related to his engine which will get better with every season (similar to JFH). Handling is probably a combination of fatigue (which will improve) and experience/over-enthusiasm. I could see both problems out of his game in a couple of years at which point he'd be a serious player.

Just gotta hope he stays (relatively) injury free. His tackling technique is excellent, but he's not a huge guy so he'll need to run a bit harder than his opponents to have impact. You need your body to hold up for that kind of thing. A few bad injuries and he could end up like Docker.
