Mitch copping a fair bit on social media without much substance other than the fact he was a bit quiet in the first half.

I think its more to do with the fact that NSW lost rather than how Mitch played, they need a scapegoat.

If we need a scapegoat, why aren't we targeting Haas, who was lazy in defence, or Simms, who is useless these days?

Moses did his job.

Moses did his job.

Because scapegoating Mitch is the easy way out and what the fans wanted to happen. Most were going into that game with a firm opinion they didn't want changed so they found whatever they could to reinforce it.

Not much of a mention on Martin either. He came out of the blocks like Bolt but faded just as fast. Murray had a great game and Turbo did what he could. Api went OK when he came on. Crighton tried hard. The Parra boys did OK with limited opportunities.
The disappointments last night were many.
Yeo
Two'oooooo
Hass
Finacune
Teddy
JAC
Latrell
Wighton
Cook
Simms
And finally Fittler. I get the feeling his game plan didn't change so much, more so he wasn't saved by some outstanding individual performances on this occasion.

Games with good players can be blown apart when things go your way.
Like game 2 and Latrells intercept.
The addition of Ponga is huge. So is Hunt at hooker over McCullough. Nathan and Luai are superior to Moses and Wighton. So that is 4 changes is the spine across two sides.
If Nathan played yes we probably win but had Moses played game 1 and 2 we still win those games also.

But certainly, Moses is a better last tackle option than Wighton?
He is. He should've done all the kicking. But every merkin seemed to have a kick in that game, all trying to be the hero. I'd say that's what you get with a rookie halfback. There's always an element of who-the-f**k-are-you-merkin from the established players, as if kicking is a different skill at Origin level.

Anyway, they didn't pass Moses the ball enough and they lost because of it. They built no pressure.

I think we were beaten in the forwards, and as is usually the case in a dead rubber, only one team was desperate to win. The ref certainly helped there, but Queensland were far more intense.

We can either blame Mitch or stick up for him. Either way, I hope this experience has not dampened his confidence. Cleary was very ordinary in his first series - and in fact, looked lost. But the level he is at right now is extraordinary. Mitch will certainly be better for the run - as long as his confidence hasn't taken a hit. I was really impressed that he didn't go into his shell in the second half and kept trying to be involved. Well done.

I don't think it will do him any harm as he'll know himself that he didn't have a bad game. If anything it might teach him to pay less attention to critics.

I share your concern Ivor. My greatest worry was the team being beaten and the press crucifying Moses game. This is what's happened. I guess it will definitely show his claimed maturity whether he can ignor the outside noise. My thought were.
1. Cook fu*cked him over. (Not Mitch's fault)
2. When he finally got ball he played as instructed. (Fittlers game plan)
3. He kicked well after a nervous start where he was a tad conservative.
4. His defense was outstanding bringing down big forwards with momentum and speedy backs both with one on one tackles.
5. A massive tackle on Valentine that put him out of the game.
6. His last play chip and chase that gave the team an opportunity to go for the win.
7. 2 kicks, the second needing to readjust on the move for the Api try.
8. The quick pass to the edge for Latrell to do his thing.
9. He backed up well in the late Turbo line break.
All in all he did a good job. Better than most of Pearce's appearances and no worse than Cleary prior to this years games 1&2.
Fu*k the wankfest Mitch. You "played strong, done fine".

Fittler said he was happy with his game.

Sutton was blatantly biased. The NRL needs to address some of the dramatic inconsistencies with the way he reffed each team last night. An appalling performance that certainly cost nsw the chance to equalise the game in the last 10 minutes.
He gave qld a penalty for nsw lying in the ruck early on that gave qld the lead then refused to do the same on 2 consecutive tackles when nsw were camped on their line at 20-18. Some of the 6 agains that helped Queensland out of trouble surely can’t be explained if you drilled down on them.

I’m hoping it ups his confidence. His kick to Turbo was maybe a little short but other than that, well weighted and then recovering and keeping his head up on the second kick was fantastic play. Qld had rushed him all night and I think most were expecting him to just pop a cross field bomb. But he played what was in front of him, gave his teammates time and angled a great kick. Superb chase by Korisau too.
And Mitchs defence was strong too even if he kept getting pinged

I'm glad blokes like Cronk are defending Moses' performance. Seriously it amazes me this NSW media, they lost by 2 and they blame the new guy. I think they were expecting him to fire. To be honest I thought he handled it well, considering what was around him. His kicking game was great, defense was superb. I dont know what other halfback couldve done better. Im glad they gave him the opportunity .

Honestly who was the last NSW halfback to go really well on debut? I dont think Johns and Clearly were all that flash on debut.
