I have to laugh at the experts claiming that QLD have no hope of coming back next year.

Just to play sliding doors; If you look at origin 2, QLD gifted NSW the first two tries with a piss poor turnover in scoring territory and an intercept. If you take those tries away and QLD actually score the tries that Turbo and To’o prevented then you have a totally different game.

For next year, QLD require the pack to stand up, with Grant included. They require the backs boosted by some centres, with Brimson and Ponga included. Munster and Fifita need rockets up their backsides. That’s 5 X-factor players who can all change the outcome of a game who should all be there. Any emerging young QLDers in the outside backs need to train as centres, as a 10+ year origin career is awaiting them if successful. I’m looking at you Mulitano….if they let you play.

Point being, for years we lamented the lack of competition at Origin from NSW. They have stood up since 2018. Time for the Maroons to reciprocate. With other young guns in the wings such as Walker and Walsh and QLD rugby league’s embarrassment this year, we could have a great series next year. Origin is far from dead.
What's the saying?

Coates at Melbourne should hopefully see him improve 100 fold as well.

Its interesting how after years of the game ignoring the centre position we have just seen what a difference it can make if youve got real quality in that spot. I hope it sees the revival of world class centres, I grew up watching the likes of Renouf, Meninga, G Connoly, Ellery Hanley etc. Be great to see centres of that ilk again.

NSW also bombed a few tries too, the Murray one from the Turbo line break should've been iced and the one where Murray didn't get back.behind the play the ball was another example of QLD getting skinned. The Coates and Feldt opportunities happened when the game was well and truly over, at best it would've made the scoreline abit more respectable. Sutton ensured the game was alot closer than it should've been as he let both teams get away with murder in the ruck and QLD certainly rode their luck, NSW had an average PTB speed of 3.98 seconds which is amazingly slow, (Most NRL teams range from 3.3-3.7 seconds) when a team is as dominant as NSW was you'd expect closer to 3.5 seconds average PTB (QLD had averaged 3.34 seconds). The lack of policing of the ruck really neutralized any dummy half threat Damian Cook would normally pose.
QLD will be better next year, they have to be but most of the guys in this NSW team will only get better individually and collectively with their combinations. For QLD I just don't see anyone within their pool of players that can stop Latrell and Turbo, I think we've confirmed Capewell is not a centre at this level, Gagai got dominated by Latrell and will be 31 next year, Coates and Mulitalo* are both specialist wingers, Tabuai Fidow is a gifted attacker but would get murdered defensively.

I just hope that with Cleary out, the "brains trust" for NSW pick a specialist halfback to replace him. Wighton is a manufactured running five eight, he is not a halfback which is what this team needs (be it a game managing half or a ball playing half - Wighton is neither). Also form wise, he is well down on his 2020 form.

I agree that the centres will have to be manufactured. This NSW team is going to be together for a minimum of 6 more years, with even more talent coming in behind this lot. QLD need to start now.
The point I was making is QLD do have some talent coming into their team. Origin will be OK.

What's the saying?

If my aunt had balls she'd be my uncle...
If there was no COVID break last year and Origin went ahead as usual, Qld are stuck with Kevvie instead of getting the crafty old fox Bennett at the end of the season to develop a gameplan that'd actually work with that spare parts Maroons squad...

If Hayne passes to Morris instead of hogging the ball, NSW are 16-0 up at H/T in Game 2 2017 and this is enough for them to go on and win the match- and the series...

If Hodkinson had a better aim at his field goal attempt NSW would've won Game 1 2015 and then the series by Game 2 in Melbourne...

If Pearce didn't shit the bed in the 2013 decider, NSW win that game and series as well...

If the shepherd was correctly called in the 2012 decider, NSW win that game and series too...

If Tony Archer doesn't actively screw over NSW in the 2008 decider, they probably win the game (and series)...

If Jamie Lyon doesn't throw one stinker of a hospital pass to Brett Hodgson NSW probably hold out Qld in the 2006 decider and NSW win 4 in a row. Meaning there probably would've been no Origin series played since because what's the point if Qld aren't winning?

If if if if if....

Thurston, for all the good stuff he did on the field and off it as a cowboy, giving kids his headgear and all that great stuff…

was the biggest sulk and worst winner/loser IMO. Many bag Cameron Smith for many reasons - but win lose or draw… he always spoke with respect and professionalism about his opponents. The Sharks GF win was a prime example… couldn’t have been more magnanimous.

On the other hand, Thurston was a spoilt brat. In victory (the Pearce comment) or in defeat (elbowing then head butting Reynolds in the dying stages of their first series loss in ages).

Happy to be in the minority if that’s the case, but IMO Thurston is the biggest tool Qld has produced in state of origin this century…
Big call.

Personally I'd go for the one-eyed grub. Thinking of all the meetings he had to attend after he posted that smug Tweet was instant boner material.

I mean FFS, guy has a tramp stamp.

Wasn’t the point being made. As I said…dickhead.
No need to get so pissy about it you sook. Qld scored 1 try in two full games of football. They have been completely outplayed by a better side. Acting like the series / games have been on a knife edge is garbage when there is a 70 point differential between the teams is fanciful.

100 percent. Thurston was one of the worst, terrible attitude. Without a doubt the biggest sore loser of all times. Endless press conferences throughout his career about the NRL having a conspiracy to keep his shitty team out the finals, constantly faking fouls to draw penalties.

I distinctly remember 2016 finals, Cowboys v Broncos (the who gives a f**k cup) where he put in a grubber that went dead and ran directly into a defender then threw himself about ten metres forward to claim a penalty. Protected species.

Absolutely spot on. All of these rightfully brought up at the time, with the bonehead deluded qlders dribbling their usual shit of 'salty' blah blah etc. Think that 08 decider was also where Cooper and Quinn stood there like statues and let Folau fly to catch that bomb too. NSW also led late in game 1 in 2011 from memory but beaten by JT/Slater in the last 5 minutes or so. Let's not forget the ridiculous amount of tries either scored or stroll-overs set up for Darius 'Merritt' Boyd by a bloke from NSW. Or the fact we were flat out getting more than 1 or 2 50/50s a series. All without a halfback.
Makes it pretty tough to win much 😂

I never did. You are pretty stupid aren’t you?
I was commenting on Gus Gould stating Origin is dead.
I don’t think it is. Understand?

Dane "Origin superstar" Gagai had this luxury as well for years. Now getting found out without the luxury of that once in a generation Qld backline to serve it up for him.

It's like Brucks on Cobra Kai getting his face smashed in the moment he doesn't have Kyler or his other dipshit buddies to cover for him when he talks smack.

Thurston did what he did because he knew he could get away with it. In the era of $10,000 fines for even questioning a referees performance Thurston basically questioned the integrity of the ref, touchy, video ref by suggesting they all conspired against the cowboys to ensure an all Sydney grand final and somehow was not cautioned. Let's be real here if someone like Joey Leilua said something along those lines he's probably be deregistered

No I don't understand. A bunch of what ifs and then a whole lot of jibber jabber... I think about manufacturing some centres from Brimson / Ponga / Walsh. I agree the Qld pack can and will get better with Grant back, as a start. But you've completely missed the biggest factor in your drivel. The coach just doesn't get origin, maybe lacking a little pashun and spiwit.
