It’s true Jim and Callmack I am seething. Extremely disappointed in Jai.

So it looks like we are likely to lose Gagai as well as we won’t budge on 1 year.

And now we are going oh shit Ta’affe and Ilias are not ready. Reyno going and potentially Milford coming the ones in power at Souths have lost the plot!

I am absolutely fuming.
Makes you wonder what's in store for Cody.
His contract ends next year.

But Mansour was 30 (now turned 31) when they offered him a 2 year deal, even though they had Paulo, Milne, and Burns waiting in the wings

Cody will be 33 when he plays the first game of his next contract. Anything more than 1 year is asking for trouble.

This just defies belief. It absolutely defies belief these actions from Jai. Like seriously, how stupid can you be?!! He would have known full well he was breaking the bubble yet, did it anyway. So stupid!! What if the women had Covid and he just compromised the whole Queensland camp? Does Jai not think of these things? Man, I am so angry and disappointed with him and he should be ashamed of himself. It's disgraceful.

I don't normally bag our players but even looking through Red and Green glasses, there's no defending what he's done and in this case, he fully deserves to be ripped into.

No I'm not upset. I am happy.

What I wrote are YOUR exact words you wrote about Adam Reynolds. Repeatedly. You wrote almost as many posts bagging Reynolds as you did crying about Sua.

Funny how that is, you smashing Reynolds but blaming Souths, Bennett, the salary cap etc etc over Sua.

How do you know Sua's agent didn't say to Souths, "I want 550+ for Sua, take it or leave it"?
Lay off brah. I agree with your opinions of Sua but there's no need to be targetting Handy like this.

And if we keep forcing players out we'll have a hell of a time trying to attract anyone decent to sign with us.
Nobodies forcing anyone out. A 1 year deal on the table isn't forcing someone out. If Cody decides not to sign, it doesn't mean he's been forced out. It just means he wants more than what the club feels is responsible at that stage of his career.

Latrell's next contract will be pushing $1M. Add a 34 year old Cody and a 33 year old Gagai to keep Latrell happy for lets say another $1M and the cap starts to get really ugly.

If an aging Cody leaving is enough to convince Latrell to leave then i guess he doesn't love Souths as much as he let on when he signed.

Or maybe Trell will feel "Why should I be loyal to a club that hasn't been loyal to guys like Reyno and Cody who've given their all to the club" This idea that we can short-change players because they should want to play for Souths has long been proven to be a fallacy.

Offering a 1 year contract at similar money is showing loyalty though, just not the blind loyalty that some fans want to see.

Like players, the club also needs to plan and protect it's future. The club eventually needs to move on from the current senior players and the longer it takes, the harder the fall will be.

I disagree. Offering a 1 year deal to a key player is a slap in the face. As for the club protecting it's future, one way to do that is to lock up quality players (like Cody). You seem to think that once a player reaches a certain age that then then have nothing more to offer. It's the shiny new toy syndrome, get rid of the senior player so you can grab some young guy who may or may not turn out to be any good. Cody has well and truly earned a multi year extension (just like Reyno had too) but for some reason the club can't see that.

It isn't about casting aside the old toy for the new toy, it's about offering terms that can help keep both and benefit the club long term.

There are currently 9 of 480 contracted players in the NRL 33+ at the start of the season, the same age that Cody will be at the beginning of the season of his next contract. 7 that started the season at 34+ and only one over 35. He is getting to an age that there is no long term guarantee of his future and the number of similarly aged players support this. He'll be on pretty good coin and should he decide to retire after the first year, the club will have $600k or so on the cap that can't be spent. 1 year deals avoid this and he can always sign another should he wish to continue and he continues to perform at a NRL level.
