Tyler Slade is playing Flegg for the Sharks so I'm guessing he's gone.

https://www.nswrl.com.au/draw/jersey-flegg-cup/2021/round-7/sharks-v-bulldogs/

Also, not sure on this one (because I don't know all the ins and outs of the 30 man squad system and availabilities around it) and have no link supporting it but I'm guessing Otukolo might be in the 30 now, just on the basis of no hookers being signed to replace Lawton and him being named on the extended bench frequently.

Imagine if we could secure Joey Manu as fullback and then Walsh can play in the halves. Do it!

Adam Pompey re-signs to the end of 2023:

Pompey signs new contract
Vodafone Warriors centre Adam Pompey has signed a contract extension keeping him at the club until the end of the 2023 NRL season.

The 22-year-old Wesley College product’s signing comes on the back of him becoming a regular first-grader this year after his breakthrough season in 2020.

He’s set to make his ninth appearance of the season when the Vodafone Warriors host the Wests Tigers at Central Coast Stadium tomorrow night.

“Adam has progressed really well and established himself as an NRL player this season,” said Vodafone Warriors head coach Nathan Brown.

“He’s found his home at left centre and over the last five weeks or so he has taken a big step forward as an NRL player.”

After making his NRL debut against Cronulla in Wellington in 2019, Pompey has gone on to amass 26 appearances including eight so far this season.

“I’m really grateful to be with the club long-term. Looking back to when I first signed, I’m happy with the progress I’ve been able to make,” said Pompey.

“I’ve just kept fighting to try to get a spot in the team. Now I have to try to hold onto it.”

In his eight games this season, Pompey has scored four tries to lift his career tally to 11 while he has averaged 119 metres a game.

“Adam came home to New Zealand to make a fresh start to his career,” said Vodafone Warriors CEO Cameron George.

“He’s a great example of perseverance and finding a home where he can thrive in our culture.”

Pompey was initially picked up by the Sydney Roosters before joining the Vodafone Warriors for the 2018-2019 offseason.

“Adam’s a great story for our club,” said Vodafone Warriors recruitment manager Peter O’Sullivan.

“He came on a train and trial deal, progressed to a development player, then top squad now he’s an established NRL player.

“I’m really proud of his development as a player and person and we’re looking forward to him becoming a dominant centre for us in the future. He is now showing the confidence to match the better centres in our game.”

Taniela Otukolo Re-signs until the end of 2024:

Otukolo signed until 2024
The Vodafone Warriors have made another key investment in their future by extending hooker Taniela Otukolo’s contract to the end of the 2024 season.

The 18-year-old was on the NRL team’s extended bench as hooker cover for four matches against Manly, St George Illawarra, Melbourne and North Queensland and has again been included in the 21-man squad for tomorrow night’s clash against the Wests Tigers.

He has also been playing for the Vodafone Warriors’ feeder club Redcliffe in the Queensland Rugby League’s colts’ competition.

“Taniela has come through our development pathway system at the Vodafone Warriors and this further shows how beneficial our relationship with Redcliffe is,” said Vodafone Warriors CEO Cameron George.

“With Taniela’s signing along with several other players, we’re entering an exciting phase in the club’s future.”

Extending Otukolo’s contract comes on the back of the Vodafone Warriors securing NRL rookies Reece Walsh and Rocco Berry on long-term deals as well as signing exciting young second rowers Zyon Maiuu and Jacob Laban.

“Taniela has been so impressive in his training and his development to earn a spot in our 21-man NRL squad over the last month,” said Vodafone Warriors head coach Nathan Brown.

Nathan BrownVodafone Warriors head coach
“He’s eager to learn and is always working hard on his game. I’m sure we will see him in our game day 17 at some stage if he keeps working hard on the basics.”

Vodafone Warriors recruitment manager Peter O’Sullivan said Otukolo shows all the signs of becoming a quality NRL player.

“I’m really proud of Taniela’s improvement not only as a player but he’s really matured off the field and gained a lot of confidence being around the NRL group,” he said.

“He was pencilled in to go to Redcliffe for the season but when we lost Karl Lawton to injury he earned the chance to stay with our wider squad.

Some of the skills he possesses are off the top shelf

Peter O'SullivanVodafone Warriors recruitment manager
“He has been in great form for Redcliffe. While he is a work in progress some of the skills he possesses are off the top shelf.”

Otukolo was in exceptional form for the Vodafone Warriors in the S G Ball Cup last season before the competition was cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic. By then he had scored nine tries in just six matches.

Peta Hiku leaving the club:

Hiku to leave Warriors
The Vodafone Warriors have confirmed centre Peta Hiku is leaving at the end of the season to continue his NRL career with another club.

The 28-year-old had signed a one-year deal for 2021 but his campaign ended after four appearances following season-ending shoulder surgery after the 20-14 win over St George Illawarra on April 18.

“We made an offer to Peta but unfortunately we couldn’t match the terms he had on the table from his new club and understandably he has to look after his family’s best interests,” said Vodafone Warriors recruitment manager Peter O’Sullivan.

“Pet has made a great contribution to the club since coming back home in 2018 and we wish him all the best for the rest of his career.”

After making his NRL debut with Manly-Warringah in 2013, Hiku had a stint with Penrith and then Warrington in the Super League before coming home.

His NRL career with the Vodafone Warriors began against South Sydney in Perth in the first round in 2018. He finishes with a total of 67 appearances including 18 tries. He has a career tally of 147 games.

Jazz Tevaga re-signs until the end of 2023:

Tevaga recommits until 2023
Utility forward Jazz Tevaga is on track to join the Vodafone Warriors’ 100-game club after today signing a new two-year deal to the end of the 2023 NRL season.

Despite fielding interest from other clubs, the off-contract 25-year-old has recommitted to the Vodafone Warriors to extend his club career to eight seasons.

The inspirational Tevaga made his 81st first-grade appearance in Friday night’s Indigenous Round clash against North Queensland leaving him in line to become the 27th player to bring up 100 appearances for the club early next season.

Vodafone Warriors head coach Nathan Brown said Tevaga has been rewarded for his efforts throughout the 2021 season.

“Jazz has been really consistent in his training and the way he has played this season,” he said.

“I’ve been impressed with the way he’s gone about improving his game and what he brings in terms of team dynamics.

“Every area the coaches have asked him to improve he’s worked on and we’re seeing good results.”

Tevaga has been ever-present in 2021, having his 12th straight outing on Friday night. In a year when he has been used as both a starter and an interchange player, he has averaged close to 90 metres and 30 tackles a game.

“I always wanted to stay here. I love the club and I love where we’re headed," said Tevaga.

Jazz TevagaVodafone Warriors loose forward
“I’m just glad to have my future sorted out now so I can get on with the rest of the season.”
After making his NRL debut against Melbourne in 2016, Tevaga had just 11 appearances to his name after his first two seasons but has been an established first grader since 2018.

“Jazz is a popular member of our squad with everyone, with players, staff and members and fans,” said Vodafone Warriors CEO Cameron George.

“He brings so much to the Vodafone Warriors and the extension of his contract to 2023 is a great boost to our club in general.”

Tevaga’s signing comes two weeks after centre Adam Pompey had his contract extended while rookie outside back Rocco Berry and standoff Kodi Nikorima have also re-signed recently.

“Jazz is invaluable to our squad with his ability to play lock and hooker and it’s been great to watch him grow on and off the field this season,” said Vodafone Warriors recruitment manager Peter O’Sullivan.

“He’s in the age and experience bracket with his number of NRL games played where he can have a positive impact on our performances moving forward.”

Tevaga, the 2018 Dally M interchange player of the year, is the fourth longest-serving Vodafone Warriors player in the club’s current squad behind David Fusitu’a, Ken Maumalo and Roger Tuivasa-Sheck.

Aaron Pene signed to the end of 2023:

Storm prop Pene signed

The Vodafone Warriors have boosted their depth in middle forwards by signing Melbourne Storm front rower Aaron Pene on a two-year deal from next season.

A late developer at first-grade level, the 25-year-old made his NRL debut last year and has been in the Storm’s game day squad for their last three games.

Vodafone Warriors head coach Nathan Brown said Pene’s exposure to Melbourne’s renowned culture would be invaluable for the club.
“Aaron has been in a great system for the last couple of years so he’ll bring some good experience from a top team to our club,” he said.

Nathan BrownVodafone Warriors head coach

“He’s got great leg speed and power and he’s now getting an opportunity to establish himself in Melbourne’s NRL squad this season. The modern game suits Aaron down to the ground.”

Of Samoan heritage, the 1.90m, 107kg Pene initially came through Parramatta’s under-20s in 2015 and 2016, had a stint at Penrith and has played in the New South Wales Cup and the Intrust Super Cup while he also had a year off playing park football.

Aaron’s a late bloomer and we are very excited to have him onboard
Cameron GeorgeVodafone Warriors CEO
“Having Aaron join us is more good news for our members and fans. We’re building well for 2022 and beyond.”

Picked up by Melbourne midway through the 2019 season while playing for the Central Queensland Capras in the Intrust Super Cup, Pene was added to the Storm’s NRL by the end of the year.

“It’s a case of second time lucky for us with Aaron,” said Vodafone Warriors recruitment manager Peter O’Sullivan.

“We attempted to get him in 2019 but didn’t have a spot available at the time and he went to the Storm so it’s great to get him on board this time.

He possesses all the tools to be an extremely valuable player in the NRL
Peter O'SullivanVodafone Warriors recruitment manager
“He’s been a standout in the Intrust Super Cup and we look forward to seeing him progress to the NRL on a permanent basis. He possesses all the tools to be an extremely valuable player in the NRL and comes from a great system.”

Pene has been with Melbourne’s feeder club the Brisbane Tigers since 2019. In six games this season he has averaged 130 metres a game.
He made his NRL debut against the Dragons last September, was 18th man for the Storm in their 11th-round match against Canberra last month (but didn’t get on the field) before being used off the bench against Brisbane and Gold Coast in the club’s last two matches. In 33 minutes against the Broncos he made 128 metres from 11 runs with five tackle breaks.

Bunty Afoa resigned.

Hard-running prop Bunty Afoa has joined long-time teammate Jazz Tevaga by re-signing with the Vodafone Warriors until the end of the 2023 NRL season.

The new two-year deal leaves the 24-year-old St Paul’s College product on track to graduate to the Vodafone Warriors’ 100-game club,

Named on the bench to face Melbourne in Sunday’s 14th-round clash in Gosford, Afoa will lift his career tally to 76 appearances since his debut in 2016.

“Bunty has worked really hard on his game and I couldn’t be more pleased that he’s staying with the club,” said Vodafone Warriors head coach Nathan Brown.

“He has put in a lot of effort on his all-round play and we expect him to continue to grow and add to his game to make him a more rounded player in the years to come.”

The new contract is reward for Afoa after making a successful comeback from a devastating ACL injury which ruled him out for the entire 2020 season.

Vodafone Warriors CEO Cameron George underlined the significance of Afoa being retained after being developed by the club.

“As a local product, we’re delighted to see Bunty stay on with us for two more years. He’s a well-established NRL player who will come into his prime over this year and the next two.”

Ken Maumalo gone, given an immediate release:

Maumalo granted early release

Vodafone Warriors winger Ken Maumalo has requested and been granted an immediate release from his contract.

The 26-year-old Kiwi international, who was signed to the end of next season, will continue his career with another NRL club.

“Ken had an opportunity to secure a long-term future for himself and his family beyond next season but we couldn’t offer anything further at this stage,” said Vodafone Warriors CEO Cameron George.

“He has made a huge contribution to the Vodafone Warriors and we wish him and his family all the best for the future.”
Maumalo’s 105th and likely last match for the Vodafone Warriors was in the club’s 18-34 loss to Parramatta in Brisbane on May 16.
“Ken has given the Vodafone Warriors great service across seven seasons,” said Vodafone Warriors head coach Nathan Brown.
“It was a great achievement for him this year when he joined the select group of players who have made 100 appearances for the club.”
A member of the club’s premiership-winning under-20 side in 2014, Maumalo made his NRL debut against Parramatta in the opening round of the 2015 season.
He is set to finish his Vodafone Warriors career with 41 tries.

Josh Curran re-signed until the end of 2023:

'Immense talent' Curran re-signs

Vodafone Warriors back rower Josh Curran has become the latest player to extend his stay with the club until 2023.

His re-signing follows recent contract extensions for prop Bunty Afoa, utility forward Jazz Tevaga and centre Adam Pompey who have also recommitted for another two years.

Joining them on a two-year deal from next season is Melbourne prop Aaron Pene while 20-year-old outside back Rocco Berry and back rower Tohu Harris have been re-signed until 2024. New arrival Reece Walsh has also been signed until 2024.

Vodafone Warriors head coach Nathan B
rown said Curran (22) had made significant strides in the busiest season of his career so far.

“Josh is a player of immense talent who is starting to deliver on the promise he has shown since his junior days,” said Vodafone Warriors head coach Nathan Brown.

Nathan BrownVodafone Warriors head coach
“He’s worked hard on his game and has shown with the right commitment he is an NRL player.

“He now needs to build on his performances this year and establish himself as a NRL starter. That’s his challenge and he will decide how good an NRL player he will be, which is exciting for everyone at the club.”

Curran made his sixth appearance of the year in Sunday’s encounter with the Storm to lift his career tally to 12 matches since his debut in 2019.

“Josh’s signing continues our process of securing key players from within as we build our squad for the future,” said Vodafone Warriors CEO Cameron George.

“Our members and fans can expect a lot of growth from younger players who have come into the squad in the last few years as they establish themselves as NRL players.”

Curran made his NRL debut with the Sydney Roosters in 2019 before joining the Vodafone Warriors midway through the season. His first outing for the club was against Canberra as was his second in the stunning season-ending 24-20 victory at GIO Stadium.

“Josh has untold ability and is starting to deliver on his promise,” said Vodafone Warriors recruitment manager Peter O’Sullivan.

“He adds a lot of value to our list being right at home at lock or on the edge. He deserves his extension following some outstanding training efforts and some great footy before his recent injury.
“I look forward to seeing him grow as a player and taking his game to another level.”
Curran, an Indigenous All-Stars representative the last two seasons, has scored his first two NRL tries this year. In his six appearances in 2021 he has averaged 35 minutes, 80 metres and 38 tackles including his career best performance of 142 metres and 50 tackles in the 20-14 win against St George Illawarra in April.

Dallin Watene-Zelezniak signs with the club until the end of 2024:

DWZ's signing officially sealed

Signing formalities have now been completed paving the way for New Zealand captain Dallin Watene-Zelezniak to join the Vodafone Warriors immediately on a deal through to the end of the 2024 NRL season.

Now in his eighth season, the 25-year-old Hamilton-born Watene-Zelezniak adds another level of experience and leadership to the Vodafone Warriors.

He’ll be available to make his debut in the club’s next match, their 16th-round encounter with the St George Illawarra Dragons at Central Coast Stadium in Gosford on Friday, July 2 following this weekend’s standalone Origin round.
“It’s great news for our club and a terrific signing having Dallin on board,” said Vodafone Warriors head coach Nathan Brown.
“He brings speed, leadership and experience into our young group and will be a major help to our developing younger players.
“Dallin has some wonderful attributes, has a well-rounded game and is a great competitor. We look forward to him joining us for the back end of this season and three more seasons after that.”

With a total of 143 appearances for Penrith and Canterbury Bankstown, Watene-Zelezniak will link up with the Vodafone Warriors in Terrigal on the Central Coast for the rest of the 2021 campaign. He's also set to line up against his old club when he makes his first Vodafone Warriors appearance at Mount Smart Stadium in their 22nd-round match against Canterbury-Bankstown on August 15.

“It’s fantastic being able to bring the New Zealand captain into our squad,” said Vodafone Warriors CEO Cameron George.

“He’s a highly-respected leader on and off the field and will be a major asset to our club and to the community.”

dallin-watene-zelezniak-1i.jpg

In his nine appearances for the Bulldogs this year, Watene-Zelezniak averaged a career-best 167 metres a game, scored five tries and made 34 tackle breaks.

“Signing Dallin happened really quickly,” said Vodafone Warriors recruitment manager Peter O’Sullivan.

“He now has stability at our club and can settle into one position and enjoy his footy. It’s a great result to have a senior player and the New Zealand captain with us.”
After scoring two tries in his NRL debut in 2014, Watene-Zeleniak played his first Test for the Kiwis in 2016. He captained his country for the first time against the Kangaroos in a famous win at Mount Smart Stadium in 2018 and then in three Tests against England. He was again captain for the mid-year Test against Mate Ma’a Tonga in 2019 but was ruled out of the end-of-season Tests against Australia and Great Britain.

Chad Townsend signs for the rest of 2021:

Townsend snared for 2021

Experienced Cronulla Sutherland premiership winner Chad Townsend has been signed to join the Vodafone Warriors for the rest of the 2021 NRL season.

Boasting 187 NRL appearances, the 30-year-old halfback will immediately link with the club for the second time in his career ahead of the Vodafone Warriors’ 16th-round encounter with St George Illawarra at Central Coast Stadium in Gosford on Friday, July 2 (6.00pm kick-off local time; 8.00pm NZT).

His deal follows confirmation on Monday that New Zealand captain Dallin Watene-Zelezniak has also been secured immediately to the end of the 2024 season.
“Bringing a player of Chad’s calibre and experience back to the club at this time of the year is terrific for us,” said Vodafone Warriors head coach Nathan Brown.
“He has impressed as one of the NRL’s most consistent halfbacks throughout his career and he’s a proven performer in big games. We’re certainly delighted we’ve been able to sign him and it’s a real positive that he knows our club so well.”

As Vodafone Warrior #186, Townsend made 41 appearances for the club in 2014 and 2015 before returning to Sydney on compassionate grounds.

“The timing couldn’t be better for us being able to sign Chad,” said Vodafone Warriors CEO Cameron George.

“Bringing in Chad as well as Dallin gives us enormous experience and leadership which will be invaluable for us as we look to resume our season following the bye round.”
Townsend began his NRL career with the Sharks in 2011 but made just 19 appearances in his first three seasons there before establishing himself at the Vodafone Warriors.
In his first season back at Cronulla he helped to guide the club to its first and only title with a stunning 14-12 win over Melbourne in the 2016 grand final.
In his second term with Cronulla he played a further 127 matches.

I don't mind Chad rejoining us for the rest of the season, we might see a bit of organization now as well. Plus he left the team on good terms last time plus it plugs a gap we have in our side.
