You can add Penrith to that list, too.

I'm talking popularity. Theyre a fart in the wind compared to the likes of Dragons, Eels etc.
They are building a platform now

sure before the last few years they were a smaller club

they need a new stadium like parra

but if I was ranking Sydney clubs on popularity it would be south’s dogs and parra then below that tigers and dragons then the rest

Roosters and Manly would be ahead of Penrith in terms of popularity. So really leaves Cronulla as a less popular Sydney based club.
Hindsight they shouldn’t have added manly and Cronulla

would’ve been far better adding central coast and Wollongong but dunno what the roads were like back then

leave norths and dragons where they were alone

lol that there is. my error there.
For perfectionists, the appropriate game was Sharks v Storm 7th July. Sharks won comfortably and Brandon Smith was sin-binned following a breach of verbal decorum.

The corresponding fixture in 2018 featured another and more satisfying Smith sin-binning. Similar offence. Great joy among the locals. They needed a lift. Was possibly the worst NRL game of all time.

The table of NRL FTA ratings used to be left blank for Mel/Ade/Per, so comparisons can't go too far back. However, my impression last year was that the Melbourne NRL ratings across the season were consistently higher than previously. Not by a huge margin, and still nothing to write home about in absolute terms, but moving in the right direction.

I could be wrong. You're the expert.

I live in a regional market and guess what? You are wrong as usual. I suppose being the resident expert in everything does have its pitfalls. You just make stuff up to suit your anti ARLC agenda. The advertising in regional markets certainly differs but it’s nowhere as localised as you suggest. And yes we do have national companies based in our quaint little hovels and even the odd Harvey Norman god bless us!
You've set my mind at ease. Was starting to think regional Australia was a loose collection of sheep-shearing stations.

Aren't Newcastle and Wollongong regarded as regional for TV ratings purposes? These are hardly backwater hamlets.

#1 in memberships
#4 in attendances
#3 in most watched clubs on tv
#1 in wins over last decade

yeh no traction what so ever lol

The memberships that were free?
They are averaging 18k in a city of 5m and have done so for the last 4 seasons,
Again it goes with being a successful team, Helps that QLD love them

Spot on mate. I’m from Hobart. A capital city but still considered regional. I think old mate considers regional Australia to only consist of Walgett and the likes. He has no idea.

They have marketed themselves exceptionally well and are a strong club in a key market. I don’t see the problem.

What happens when the wheel turns and they aren't very good? Almost every other club besides GC with that success would be filling the 30k seater modern stadium they have

Then they’ll have dark days like everybody else. They are an established part of Melbournes fabric. They’ll be fine.

The Roosters have been just as successful as the Storm have been in the last decade or so.

What's their crowd average?

You seem to suffer from cognitive dissonance.

Roosters are a foundation club

and have hundreds of millions of dollars in assets to support themselves

Is anyone saying Roosters pull in great crowds? They bring history to the game that is their drawcard, about their only one

Lets ignore the 2 covid years

2022
Roosters 17,705
Storm 18,390
2019
Roosters 17,251
Storm 18,290

A successful Sydney team with no fans with 9 other teams sharing 8 million people
opposed to a successful interstate team with a 8 million people population

4k were free, 37k were paid for, still the most in the nrl.
yes they are avg 18k way above most clubs, traction if ever I’ve seen it.
if only other nrl clubs in rugby league cities could get as little traction as the storm in an afl city lol

Really, how were roosters fanbase during their success? Or penriths right now? I’m guessing by your statement they must have the same members and crowd avg as Storm?
i mean being in rl heartlands the success of manly, Cronulla, roosters et Al must have seen a massive up lift in crowds and members right? Especially as they benefit from away club fans for all sydney games. No? Really?

dont be a hater, celebrate that rugby league is actually successful in an afl city!
